NATIONS LEAGUE: The Ultra previews Friday’s Nations League game between ITALY v ENGLAND with a recommended BETDAQ bet. It’s a repeat of the Euro 2020 Final !

ITALY V ENGLAND

7.45pm We have a superb fixture in the Nations League on Friday night as Italy host England. As we all know, this is a repeat of the Euro 2020 Final and England fans will be hoping for a different outcome this time around! We have a very open market, with England trading marginal favourites on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. England have had a terrible time of things in the Nations League this time around, and you can see the pressure growing on Gareth Southgate. Clearly it isn’t an ideal time for that given it’s so close to the World Cup, but the fact remains they sit bottom of the table here.

After getting to the Final stages in 2018/19 the Nations League hasn’t been that kind to England. They finished third last time around, and there is a very strong chance now that they are going to get relegated. They sit rock bottom of Group A3 with just two points from four games. They were always going to be up against it in a Group with Germany and Italy, but they have lost twice to Hungary. The two games they have got results in have come against Germany and Italy – make sense of that! Perhaps you can forgive the 1-0 loss away to Hungary, those sort of results come from time to time away in International football but the 4-0 loss at home to Hungary was a total collapse. An embarrassing defeat, and Gareth Southgate was lucky that was basically the end of the football season in England. He didn’t have to face too much of the media.

Once again questions will be raised given England’s place in the table, and quite simply put they need two decent performances here. They finish the campaign at home to Germany, a game they will likely need to win to avoid relegation, but then again they need to win this one – Italy are three points ahead of them while Germany are four. They could easily be confirmed as going down to the B Leagues after this 90 minutes. I know the Nations League isn’t the ‘be all and end all’ for football fans, but it’s just not what you want in a World Cup year for morale, team selection and just pressure in general.

I have to say, nobody would have saw Hungary being top of this Group after everyone played four games! Especially given you have three glamorous sides here, not just two. Italy lost 5-2 away to Germany in their last Nations League game but they did manage to beat Hungary and then their last game is against Hungary. Germany also play at home to Hungary on Friday, and you’d assume a home win there. These two played out a very boring 0-0 draw at Molineux Stadium, and hopefully we get more action this time around. Basically a draw is no good to England here so they have to go for a win which might spice things up.

We did play the last round of Nations League games at an odd time – it was a longer than usual run at the end of a long season. We did get some odd results, but at the same time there’s no getting away from the fact that England have been bang average. With Italy having home advantage here I don’t see why England should be favourites at 2.72. I agree that we have an open market. Indeed, there isn’t much between the sides at all but I would have the odds the other way around here. I would have Italy as favourites and England the outsiders so from a value point of view I’m very happy to lay England at 2.72. It’s a nice position to be in having the draw on our side too. The market is expecting a reasonably cagey game again with Under 2.5 goals trading 1.66 – I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see another 0-0!

The Ultra Says:
Three points lay (liability) England to beat Italy at 2.72 with BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE.
