FRIDAY IN EUROPE: The Ultra previews Friday’s European games between SEVILLA v CADIZ and STRASBOURG v PSG both including a recommended BETDAQ bet.

SEVILLA V CADIZ

8pm It’s been a fantastic week in Europe, and the action continues with Friday night football on BETDAQ Betting Exchange! We have one fixture from La Liga and one from Ligue 1 to enjoy tonight with two very interesting markets. We start over in La Liga with Sevilla hosting Cadiz. Every game is now a “must win” game for Cadiz given their relegation fight. They have managed to get themselves out of the bottom three in recent weeks with a shock win over Barcelona and a deserved win against Villarreal. They played superbly last week at home to Athletic Bilbao but were very unlucky to lose 3-2 – they finished the game with an xG of 3.62 and only conceded 1.71 – it was just one of those games. In the last few weeks they have been playing their best football of the season, and they will see this a chance to pick up points despite Sevilla being such a top class side. Cadiz start the weekend one point outside the bottom three and then one point behind Mallorca – there is definitely a bottom five in La Liga but it does look like Alaves and Levante will be taking up 19th and 20th. That leaves one of Mallorca, Cadiz and Granada joining them in Segunda.

Although Sevilla have been Real Madrid’s closest title “challenger” for most of the season, you could say that they never really challenged at all. I said earlier in the year that Real Madrid would have never fearer Sevilla and never been worried about them, and I think that’s 100% true. Sevilla had a chance to put a little pressure on when Real were dropping points in January, but they never took their chance and kept drawing too many games. They have been pretty average since crashing out of the Europa League to West Ham and they have been very slack at the back. They have conceded xG figures of 2.59, 1.39, 2.02, 1.14, 1.64 and 2.92 in their last six games in all competitions. The performance against Levante was pretty average given all the chances they conceded despite winning, and although they have home advantage here I’m happy to have a reasonably small lay on Sevilla at 1.6. When you look at the Cadiz xG figures you can see they are playing some brilliant football at the moment, and it’s worth supporting them at the moment – they can get a result here.

STRASBOURG V PSG

8pm We move over to Ligue 1 in France to finish the evening as Strasbourg host PSG. I’m sure PSG will be a very popular bet tonight at around the 2.3 mark, but I’d be keen to see how they perform here after winning the title last weekend. Let’s be honest, there really hasn’t been a title race in France this season and PSG knew they had the title won months ago – it’s just locked in now. Nevertheless, it will still be interesting to see how they play out the last few weeks. This is a side packed with stars, but they just don’t play the football that reflects their XI. I always feel that they can do better, and perhaps that’s just because we expect so much that it becomes unrealistic. Mauricio Pochettino has spoken this season about dealing with the criticism of “not winning well enough” and having to deal with that. Reality is you can’t win 5-0 or 6-0 every weekend. The manager has also had to deal with a lot of rumours this season too – he was odd to Old Trafford earlier in the season but obviously we all know that’s not happening now, and then the latest is he is going back to Spurs! It will be interesting to see what happens though, he never looks happy with his role at PSG. Another man who has never looked happy at PSG is Messi who seems to be just going through the motions all season. His goal record in a weak league is woeful.

PSG will play with very open tactics to finish the season in my opinion, and we could see some very entertaining games. I don’t see Strasbourg buying into those tactics however – they are still fighting for a European spot next season and that would be a cracking achievement given they finish 15th last season. They have been rock solid at home this season, moving up into fifth when you just take home results. While I feel Strasbourg have been playing some solid football lately and keeping things tight at the back, it’s hard to make the argument that PSG should be bigger than 2.3. If anything, that price seems a little too big for a side creating so many chances. I would be keen to take on PSG here if they were odds on, but I feel the market is expecting a reasonably average performance here and it has moved PSG out too much. I would keep stakes pretty limited here, but PSG do appear good value at 2.3. I would be tempted by over 2.5 goals too, but PSG at 2.3 is just too big to turn down. Strasbourg are a good side, but nobody gets close to PSG in France and we have to factor in the gulf in class here.
