It might not be the most glamorous start to the weekend as Oviedo host Espanyol, but it’s great to have domestic football back! I do feel that the three International Breaks in September, October and November come too early into the season – we lose too much momentum but thankfully FIFA have merged the September and October one going forward.

This season, they have created so much more – they actually have the eighth best attacking figure, so it’s no surprise that they sit in ninth coming into this weekend.
There’s still a massive worry with Espanyol at the back however; they are still leaking chances, but this time around they are creating enough to not worry about things at the back just yet. They “only” have the seventh worst defensive figure. Oviedo are a small club, and the battle this season was always going to be trying to say in La Liga after coming up. They aren’t sitting in the bottom three yet, but there are some red flags in their performance figures. They have the worst attacking figure in La Liga at the moment – the only side with an average xG created under 1.0.
To make matters worse for Oviedo, they also have the worst defensive figure – the only side with an average xG conceded over 2.0. As the saying goes, you don’t win many games conceding two goals! We have an open betting heat – Espanyol come into the game as the 2.6 favourites with Oviedo 3.15 and the draw is 3.25 at the time of writing. I know Espanyol have their faults, but it’s hard to get away from the 2.6 here – as I said above they are creating far more chances this season and with Oviedo leaking chances for fun, I’m more than happy to take the 2.6 here. I feel that’s worth a confident bet to start the weekend.
