Union Berlin host RB Leipzig, and we have an interesting market. RB Leipzig come into the game as the favourites at 2.12 with Union Berlin 3.8 and the draw is 3.65 at the time of writing. Bayern Munich basically have the title won in Germany this season, so the focus for RB Leipzig has to be staying in the top four. They come into this weekend sitting in second spot, and they’ve built a nice little cushion over the likes of Bayer Leverkusen, Hoffenheim and Stuttgart.
It feels like so long time ago that Union Berlin managed a top four finish in the Bundesliga. They’ve flirted with relegation since which is remarkable, and although they sit in mid-table at the moment there are some big red flags in their performance levels. Their average xG created is only 1.32 which is the fourth worst attacking figure in the Bundesliga. Their average xG conceded is quite high at 1.5, but that’s a mid-table defensive figure in the Bundesliga given it’s such an open league. Basically, there aren’t many positives with Union Berlin at the moment – staying up will expected of course, but it’s not certain looking at the figures.
RB Leipzig have been leaking a few chances this season, but they’ve made up for that with their impressive attacking. Their average xG created is 1.77, that’s the joint-second best attacking figure in the Bundesliga so no complaints that they sit in second – and it’s not like anyone can compete with Bayern Munich anyway! When you look at the two sides, this fixture screams goals but it hasn’t worked out like that when the sides have met. Over 2.5 goals is trading odds on at 1.85, but that’s failed to collect in the last three meetings. Indeed, the last two meetings between the sides finished 0-0.
I’m happy to stay away from the goals market here. On paper, I do expect a pretty open game though. It’s hard to get away from RB Leipzig at 2.12 here – they are playing some excellent football this season, creating loads of chances and they are fresh off a 6-0 win last weekend too. Union Berlin are there for the taking too; they’re attacking figure is very poor and I’d have RB Leipzig odds on here. The 2.12 is a confident bet to kick off the weekend!
