We have yet another massive week coming up around Europe as we start the Quarter-Finals of the Champions League and the Europa League. We have some huge ties to look forward to, but unfortunately for Barcelona they are out of Europe and while they are clear at the top of La Liga, it’s the only competition they are left in this season.
Barcelona crashed out of the Copa del Rey at the Semi-Final stage last week with a 4-0 loss against Real Madrid. That result definitely came from nowhere, given the manner of the defeat. They took a one goal advantage into the tie, and they had been the better side in all the El Clasico clashes this season regardless of the result. Even when they lost 3-1 prior to the World Cup, they finished the game with a higher xG figure. It’s not all doom and gloom for Barca however, they basically have the La Liga title won given they are so far ahead!
They just have to keep ticking the games off now, and they shouldn’t lose focus too. Like I said above, they have no other competition to think about! Girona are your classic mid-table La Liga side this season, but the market is fully expecting a comfortable home win here. Barcelona are trading as short as 1.33 at the time of writing, and to be honest it’s hard to see anything bar a home win here. Girona are a solid side, they are creating marginally more chances than they are conceding this season, but there’s still a huge gulf in class here.
The main worry for Girona is their away form this season. They have only managed ten points away from home this season – at the start of this matchday that put them in the bottom six away from home. With Barcelona creating an average xG of 2.3 this season and having home advantage here, we could see plenty of goals. I couldn’t put anyone off including Barcelona in any Betdaq Multiple this week, but I’m happy to look around the side markets for some extra value.
Both Teams To Score is an interesting market, but Yes is trading odds against at 2.08. Barcelona have been conceding less than an average xG of 1.0 this season which is very impressive, but Girona have been creating an average xG of 1.6 this season which is reasonably high. I prefer Over 2.5 goals at 1.65 – obviously Barcelona are always involved in goals at home, and Girona stats suggest they play an open game too. They probably won’t go into this game too open, but an early goal could see four or five goals here. I was surprised to see Overs as big as 1.65.
