MANCHESTER CITY V INTER MILAN

8pm Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City side face a date with destiny on Saturday night as they meet Inter Milan in the Champions League Final. They head into this game as the heavy odds on favourites on BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE to land a famous treble. After beating Manchester United last Saturday at Wembley to lift the FA Cup, only Inter Milan stand in their way now to put themselves into the history books. Manchester City are trading 1.5 at the time of writing with Inter Milan 7.6 and the draw is 4.8.

Although they have found ways to get beat in the Champions League over the last few seasons, it’s been widely accepted that City are the best team in Europe. They had all the hard work done against Real Madrid in the Semi-Final last season only to collapse under pressure right at the death. They righted that wrong this season, and it would be a surprise to see anything bar a City win here. You have to say however that they have fluffed their lines at times in Europe, and perhaps Inter Milan’s biggest chance is the pressure of expectancy getting to City.

Apart from what goes on between the ears of the City players, it’s hard to find fault. They have been exceptionally good at the business end of the season. They’ve chased down Arsenal in the Premier League in seemingly unstoppable form. The win over United in the FA Cup at the weekend, although expected, would have been a nice boost in confidence. They created an average xG of 2.3 in the Premier League this season and only conceded an average of 1.0. It’s hard to pick holes in those stats!

Although Inter Milan lost Serie A by quite a wide margin to Napoli, they did play very good football this season. They were a whopping 18 points behind Napoli, but they created an average xG of 1.8 and only conceded 0.9. Clearly not as good as City, but then again who is, and they are solid numbers. We also have to compare how strong the Premier League is compared to Serie A. City are creating the best figures around Europe in the strongest league – that is impressive no matter what your outlook is.

Inter Milan have delivered some nice performances at the back this season, and it seems their best chance of stopping City will be to put XI men behind the ball. I can’t see Inter wanting an open game here – if you fight fire-with-fire against City you just get out-gunned quickly. Real Madrid know that, as do Bayern Munich. An Italian team will be the best possible side to carry out those tactics in fairness, but I still feel that won’t be enough to stop City.

On paper, there is only one winner for me. The 1.5 on City offers some value in my opinion as I would have them marginally shorter. From a goals point of view, I’m happy to stay out of the Over/Under 2.5 goals market – Over 2.5 goals is trading odds on at 1.73 but as I said above, I feel Inter’s best chance will be to defend for their lives and hope to get to the 70th minute mark at 0-0 – from there they might go for it but I can’t see them getting there. If the game opens up, City will run riot – Inter have conceded a lot of sloppy goals domestically this season, even at times when they have been on top and controlling games. That’s why they are so far behind Napoli. I can only see one winner here, and I’m happy to have a Max Bet on City to secure an unforgettable treble!
