Everyone has dropped points at some stage in Serie A this season, and you just know we’re going to have plenty of drama in the title race!
The Milan Derby is always a wonderful occasion though, and with the news that the San Siro is going to be redeveloped in years to come, perhaps it’s even more special for the time being. If it was on your bucket list, you’re certainly running out of time anyway! Inter Milan come into the game as the odds on favourites at 1.94 with AC Milan at 4.5 and the draw is 3.65 at the time of writing.
AC Milan have a superb recent record in the Milan Derby – they are unbeaten in the last five meetings in all competitions. Obviously included in that is the Italian Super Cup win for AC Milan in Saudi Arabia. There’s no doubt that Inter Milan have been playing the better football this season, but the 1.94 does feel a little short for a Derby – especially with AC Milan having such a good recent record. AC Milan have been very strong at the back in Serie A this season too – on average they have conceded less than a goal a game. They’ve only lost once, and that was a very unlucky result on the opening weekend of the season.
Inter Milan have been playing the best football in Serie A this season though. They have the best attacking figure with an average xG created of 1.93 and the second best defensive figure with an average xG conceded of just 1.06. That’s title winning standard to be honest; should they hold onto that performance level all season, they will win the title in my opinion. I’m not rushing to have a strong opinion on the match odds market here – Inter have been playing well, but as I said, the 1.94 feels a little short for a Derby.
I’m happy to stay out of the match odds market, and I like goals. Over 2.5 goals is trading 1.89 and Both Teams To Score is 1.81. I couldn’t put anyone off either bet to be honest – we have had plenty of action in the recent meetings. Overs has landed in five of the last seven meetings, and Both Teams To Score has collected in six of the last seven. I feel there’s marginally more value in Both Teams To Score at 1.81 in what should be an entertaining game. It’s a confident selection for me.
