SUNDAY LIGUE 1: The Ultra previews Sunday’s Ligue 1 New Year’s Day clash between LENS v PSG with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

LENS V PSG

7.45pm We kick off 2023 in Europe with action from Ligue 1 on BETDAQ Betting Exchange! We have a busy fixture list in France, but Lens hosting PSG looks the pick of the fixtures. Although PSG sit seven points clear at the top of the table, this is a top of the table clash as Lens sit in second place at the moment. It’s not often that PSG start games in Ligue 1 trading odds against, but Lens have been very good this season and this should be a tough evening for the biggest club in France.

Unfortunately for Lens, they returned to action dropping points on Thursday against Nice. They had to settle for a 0-0 away from home, but in fairness they didn’t deserve to win the game. It was very even, and barely anything between the sides on xG figures. PSG returned with a 2-1 win at home against Strasbourg, and although they weren’t at their best they got the job done. They created enough to win the game and you can’t ask for more – given the gulf in class between PSG and some sides in Ligue 1, it’s easy to get disappointed when they “only” win by one goal, but they are winning games!

PSG are trading 2.24 at the time of writing, and I’m sure that will be a popular bet with most casual football fans this weekend. Like I said above, it’s not often we see PSG at these prices in Ligue 1. I’m sure they’ll be included in a lot of Betdaq Multiples, but I wouldn’t be rushing to back them here. Lens have won every home game in Ligue 1 this season, and they haven’t been lucky either. They have finished every home game with a bigger xG figure than they have conceded.

Overall, Lens have been playing very good football and they deserve to be sitting in second. They have been rock solid at the back – only conceding an average xG of 1.0 per game this season, and PSG will be without Neymar and Messi here too, so they will find it difficult to break down this Lens side. However, PSG will still have Mbappe who is the best player in the world at the moment – as we saw at the World Cup!

PSG have also been pretty solid at the back this season – it would be easy for them to concede a few sloppy goals because they will basically outscore most sides in Ligue 1. I can see a pretty cagey game here, especially with PSG being away from home. Lens have been rock solid here and home advantage it a big thing for them – Over 2.5 goals is trading odds on but I don’t agree with the market here. Under 2.5 goals looks the value at 2.17.

The Ultra Says:
Two points win Under 2.5 goals at 2.17 BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE.
