NATIONS LEAGUE: The Ultra previews FINLAND v ENGLAND and GREECE v REPUBLIC OF IRELAND both with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
FINLAND V ENGLAND
5pm England are back in action on Sunday afternoon in the next round of Nations League on BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE. After a midweek loss at home to Greece, they come into this game surrounded by a cloud of negativity! That result left Greece sitting three points clear at the top of Group B2 – it would be highly embarrassing if England didn’t top this Group to be honest after getting relegated last season. I know the Nations League doesn’t mean much to a side like England because they will qualify for Euro 2028 without needing a ranking or a playoff, but you’d still expect them to be topping a Group involving Greece, Finland and the Republic of Ireland quite easily. They were exceptionally boring again on Thursday night, and Greece fully deserved to win the game. Maybe it wasn’t Gareth Southgate that was holding them back after all! The result also totally ruled out interim manager Lee Carsley from the running to get the job – he had a very slim chance to begin with, but there was always a chance if the team were playing amazing football he might actually get it – after that performance that chance is gone.
England went into Thursday night as the red hot favourites – they were trading 1.32 in the build-up to kick off and favourite backers got their fingers well and truly burnt. They come into this game as the red-hot favourites again however; at very similar odds too! England are trading two ticks bigger than Thursday night at 1.34 with Finland 12.0 and the draw is 5.8 at the time of writing. There’s a huge gulf in class between the sides here, and there’s a few levels between Finland and Greece to be honest – however you wouldn’t exactly be rushing to take the 1.34 on England here after the week their having. They should get the job done, but I’m happy to stay out of the match odds market here – Finland lost here on Thursday night against the Republic of Ireland, giving up a 1-0 lead too against a very poor Ireland side. I’m happy to keep stakes low here, but England should control this game and while I’m not sure how many goals they can score given they’ve been so poor creating chances, I do feel that they can keep a clean sheet. Both Teams Not To Score is a nice position at 1.73.

GREECE V REPUBLIC OF IRELAND
7.45pm We stay in Group B2 to finish the action on Sunday as Greece host the Republic of Ireland. These two sides recorded massive wins on Thursday night, both unexpected too – obviously Greece beating England in Wembley will go down as the shock of this International break, but Ireland coming from behind away from home to beat Finland was a surprise too. Ireland have really struggled to create chances and score goals recently – things were looking bleak at 1-0 down but they battled hard to their credit. That win was huge for them because it was definitely a relegation battle given Greece and England were already six points ahead. That will give the Irish squad a good boost, it was a much needed one too after the poor start with the new manager – his interviews after the last International break were absolutely bizarre – claiming he didn’t know much about the players when in the words of Roy Keane, that’s his job! These two sides will know each other well at this stage after being in the same Euro 2024 qualifying Group; Greece won both times the sides met, 2-1 in Greece and 2-0 in Ireland.
It’s not a surprise that Greece come into the game as the odds on favourites, especially after beating England on Thursday night! Greece are trading 1.8 with the Republic of Ireland 6.0 and the draw is 3.45 at the time of writing. Although Ireland managed to get a win over Finland, they still remain in a pretty bad place overall – it will be interesting to see how they perform here obviously, but it’s hard to get away from Greece at 1.8. They were exceptionally good against England on Thursday, and additionally they proved too good for Ireland twice recently too. It might suit Ireland that Greece see most of the ball so Ireland can counter-attack when they get a chance, but I’m still very happy to take the 1.8 on Greece. I’m not going to go crazy with the stakes – as is usually the case in an International break – but two points at 1.8 is a good position in my opinion.
