Real Madrid come into the game as the favourites at 2.48 with Atletico Madrid 2.98 and the draw is 3.65 at the time of writing. Even though we won’t have the Derby atmosphere in Saudi Arabia, there’s always fireworks on the pitch between these two.
Although Atletico are miles off the title race this season, they do have one up on Real this season after beating them 5-2 with home advantage in September. That was obviously a very entertaining game, and when the Spanish sides come to Saudi Arabia we have had a lot of goals in the past. We should have an open and entertaining game here – Over 2.5 goals is trading 1.77 and Both Teams To Score is 1.65. I have to say, I was a little surprised to see those two prices – I thought they would be trading shorter.
However, both sides have been very solid at the back in La Liga. They’ve actually only conceded 17 goals in 19 games – I know Villarreal have conceded one less, but they’ve played two games less so you can easily make the argument that these two have been the best defensive sides. Their average xG conceded is a little higher, but not by a huge amount – both are in the top four on xG defensive figures. They are both in the top four on attack figures too, but there’s a massive difference there – Real have an average xG created of 2.21 and Atletico have a figure at 1.58. Barcelona and Real have been miles ahead of the others this season.
While I wouldn’t call this fixture an exceptionally high scoring one; we usually see drama. Both Teams To Score has only failed to collect once in the last twelve meetings. During that period we’ve also had score lines like 3-1 twice, 5-3, 4-2 and most recently 5-2. As I said above, we’ve generally had goals in the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia and while I couldn’t put anyone off Overs at the bigger price, Both Teams To Score looks the value pick here at 1.65. Diego Simeone usually sets his side up to defend but in a once off game here, they’ll have to open up a little and we should see an entertaining game.
