8pm We have an excellent UEFA Super Cup to enjoy on Thursday night as Bayern Munich take on Sevilla. Bayern were unstoppable in the Champions League last season, and they started their Bundesliga campaign with an 8-0 win over Schalke! Even though Schalke have been poor lately, it just goes to show how good Bayern are at the moment – they have been scoring goals for fun for a while now.
xG has pointed out that Bayern have been the best team in Europe for while some time now. They process at the back in superb, although they make most of their headlines with their attacking. Their under-lining numbers are incredible. All that being said, Sevilla are a solid team and should keep Bayern honest tonight if nothing else.
Sevilla are no mugs, as their record in Europe shows. They aren’t really a top quality side however, and are more suited to the Europa League rather than the Champions League – they are compete with the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona over 90 minutes; but always fall well short over the course of the season.
Sevilla haven’t started their La Liga season yet, so they might be a little short on match fitness. They would have had friendlies of course, but Bayern had competitive action – if you can call an 8-0 win that – and that should put them spot on for this game. I’m happy to take the 1.42 on Bayern as they look a class above this Sevilla side and should have a fitness edge towards the end of the game.
