TUESDAY CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: The Ultra previews Tuesday’s matches between COPENHAGEN v MANCHESTER CITY, AC MILAN v CHELSEA and CELTIC v RB LEIPZIG all with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
COPENHAGEN v MANCHESTER CITY
5.45pm We are quickly back to Champions League action on BETDAQ Betting Exchange! I have to say this is a wonderful stage to the Groups – they play teams back-to-back and we can see some huge swings within the Group. We saw this last week with Chelsea beating AC Milan and Inter Milan beating Barcelona – now the pressure is on to try reserve those results, and then for other clubs it’s now about getting into the Europa League. We have another fascinating week ahead, and we start with Copenhagen hosting Manchester City. I have to say none of the above scenarios apply to Manchester City because they have a 100% record in this Group – the only thing left for them to do in make sure of top spot because Dortmund are only three points behind them. Given how poor Sevilla have been this season, it’s likely City won’t be certain of top spot for a few more games, but it would be a shock if they didn’t top this Group. They have a massive clash with Liverpool at the weekend, and I would definitely keep an eye on the team news here. There’s a huge gulf in class between the sides, and a second XI from City would still get the job done here. That’s why they are trading as short as 1.14!
I noted last week when the sides met in Manchester that Copenhagen weren’t having a great season in Denmark. After 11 games they were sitting in 6th which was mid-table with only twelve teams in the Danish Superliga. To be honest given the huge gulf in class between the leagues involved, I’m not even sure how relevant the Danish form is! It was completely one way traffic in Manchester last week, and City breezed to an easy 5-0 win. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a very similar score line here, but I equally wouldn’t be surprised to see Guardiola opt to rest players here. Although Liverpool have dropped plenty of points already this season, City probably still see them as their main rivals and Guardiola will want everyone in peak form for that game. With that in mind, I would keep stakes low here – the market is expecting a smooth City win with the away side trading as short as 1.16 but I feel they can bang in goals for fun again. Any Other Away Win is trading 2.6 in the Correct Score market and that looks worth a small investment.

AC MILAN v CHELSEA
8pm Next we have the highlight fixture of the night as AC Milan host Chelsea. After last week no Group is more open than Group E! At the moment Red Bull Salzburg top it with five points, following by Chelsea and AC Milan with four and then Dinamo Zagreb have three. I know plenty of football fans won’t fancy Red Bull Salzburg or Dinamo Zagreb getting results against these two, but quite literally anything could happen in this Group! It would have been fantastic for Graham Potter to see his side impressively beat AC Milan last week 3-0. After the 1-1 draw with Red Bull Salzburg that performance was much needed. AC Milan will say the game was closer than 3-0 reflects, but there was only one winner. The big question now is can Chelsea get a result in Italy? A draw wouldn’t be too bad looking at the Group situation, and I get the feeling whatever happens here we’re going to go right down to the wire in this Group anyway. I felt that AC Milan were playing the better football heading into last week, but it’s hard to argue with the result – Chelsea looked at a different level. With AC Milan now having home advantage that might bring the teams closer together, but you can fully understand why Chelsea are the favourites. We still have a reasonably open market however with Chelsea trading around 2.4.
It will be fascinating to see how Potter sets up this Chelsea side away from home in a massive Champions League game. He said before the Red Bull Salzburg game that he hadn’t even been to a Champions League game never mind took charge of one! What tactics he goes with will be fascinating, and I hope he’s brave with his team selection. I feel having watched the first leg that if Chelsea attack Milan here then they will have success. Although Milan are a top side, this match up probably highlights the difference in levels between the Premier League and Serie A at the moment. I’m going to keep stakes small because it’s clear that Chelsea haven’t been flying in general this season but they did look better than this Milan side last week. I feel the 2.4 is about the right side I feel there is value on the draw here at 3.45. I expect this game to be a lot closer than last week, and to be honest Chelsea won’t be too unhappy with a draw either. I’d have it a little shorter, but I’m happy to keep stakes small here.

CELTIC v RB LEIPZIG
8pm There’s no doubt that Celtic Park will be rocking here as Celtic host RB Leipzig, but the reality is Celtic have looked short of Champions League class this season. They were outclassed again last week by RB Leipzig when losing 3-1, and although they will be a lot more comfortable here with their home fans behind them it’s hard to see them getting a result. The atmosphere here against Real Madrid was absolutely fantastic, and I have no doubt we’ll see the same again. RB Leipzig were always on top in Germany last week though, and although they started the season poorly it now looks like they are playing better football. I think RB Leipzig should be marginally odds on here and it’s going to be hard to find a better value bet on this game than the away win at 2.2. Group F is going to have a very interesting finish in the race for second and third spot – it looks certain Real Madrid will top the Group as we all expected from the start, but the 4-1 win for Shakhtar Donetsk over RB Leipzig has thrown this Group wide open. RB Leipzig’s plan is obvious – win here and hope Real Madrid beat Shakhtar Donetsk again. For Celtic, they are only two points behind RB Leipzig and get to play Shakhtar Donetsk at home at the end of the month so they still have a reasonable chance of even finishing second, even with just one point now.
So, this fixture looks absolutely key to the Group. As much as it would be nice to see Celtic do well in the Champions League, I just can’t get away from the away win here at the odds. There is just too much of a gulf in class between the sides, and I just can’t see Celtic managing to stop RB Leipzig. I know Leipzig haven’t been at their best this season, but they are still creating an average xG of nearly two in the Bundesliga – at the moment they are conceding more than they should based on xG; hence their results. They will get better over time though, and we have to remember that the standard of football in Scotland just isn’t up to scratch. I can’t see past the away win here, but I do respect the home atmosphere at Celtic Park and the fact that Leipzig haven’t been superb this season so I’m not going to go mad with the stakes. We landed a nice Max Bet on Real Madrid to win here, but three points feels right on Leipzig to win. This should be an entertaining game, and it could be the pick of the UK games!
