CHAMPIONS LEAGUE WEDNESDAY: The Ultra previews the second day of the opening knockout round with recommended BETDAQ bets.
Knockout Round
8pm The Champions League Knockout Round Playoffs continue on Wednesday night on Betdaq Betting Exchange! We have four more very interesting fixtures as Qarabag host Newcastle, Bodo/Glimt host Inter Milan, Club Brugge host Atletico Madrid and Olympiakos host Bayer Leverkusen. Unlike Tuesday night where the match odds were relatively tight, we have three odds on favourites here – Newcastle are actually the shortest price of the week at 1.44 given the gulf in class between them and Qarabag. That game is a good place to start as it’s the early kick off; if you fancy a shock Qarabag are 8.2 and the draw is 5.3 at the time of writing. Qarabag have conceded 41 goals in 20 Champions League games this season including qualifiers – Newcastle have been creating a good volume of chances in the Premier League this season despite not getting the results. Their average xG created is 1.58, which is the sixth best attacking figure in the league, but they sit in mid-table.
Newcastle should have more than enough quality to get the job done though. They come into the game in food form – they have won their last two games including a 3-1 away win at Aston Villa in the FA Cup and a 2-1 win at Spurs. The 2.25 on Newcastle to cover the 1.5 goal handicap looks good value for a small position. Bodo/Glimt host Inter Milan at the Aspmyra Stadium next. Inter Milan finished 10th in the league phase – they needed to beat Dortmund on the final matchday to have a chance of a top eight spot, and while they won 2-0 it wasn’t enough so they have to go through the playoffs. There’s another big gulf in class here – Inter Milan come into the game as the odds on favourites at 1.72 with Bodo/Glimt 5.0 and the draw is 4.4 at the time of writing.
Inter have been exceptionally good in Italy, they have the best attacking and defensive figures in Serie A with an average xG created of 2.05 and an average xG conceded of just 0.98. This is a very difficult away trip – Bodo/Glimt have scored in six of their eight league phase games. Seven of Bodo/Glimt’s eight matches saw goals at both ends so they do offer plenty in attack. Inter have been exceptional at the back though; three of their four away games had clean sheets too so I wouldn’t be rushing to back Overs here. Both Teams Not To Score is 2.62 which is a little big considering how good Inter have been at the back, but I do feel that Inter at 1.72 is a very good value option here.
The last two games are the most open on paper – Club Brugge host Atletico Madrid and Atletico are only marginal odds on favourites at 1.98 with Club Brugge 4.0 and the draw is 3.95 at the time of writing. Can you say that Atletico are having a little crisis this season? They obviously aren’t going to do anything stupid with Diego Simeone or anything, but their results have been poor. They surprisingly lost 2-1 at home to Bodo/Glimt on the final Champions League matchday. Recent La Liga form has been poor too – they lost 3-0 away to Rayo Vallecano, and prior to that 1-0 at home to Real Betis. They aren’t even in third in La Liga – albeit they are level on points with Villarreal. This is a paper that Atletico should win on paper, but given recent results I wouldn’t be rushing to take the 1.98. From the four games tonight, I’m happy to not have a strong position in this one to be honest.
The final game to talk about is Olympiakos hosting Bayer Leverkusen – this is the most open betting heat of the night. Olympiakos are the favourites at 2.7 with Bayer Leverkusen 2.9 and the draw is 3.45 at the time of writing. This is a rematch from the league phase where Olympiakos won 2-0. Olympiakos finished 18th in the league phase after a late run of form – they won their last three group games to sneak into the top 24 including a massive 2-1 away win at Ajax on the final matchday. Leverkusen have obviously been through a lot this season – they sacked Erik ten Hag early and that decision seemed to work out alright but they are definitely lacking a spark this season. Olympiakos with the home advantage and the confidence from beating Leverkusen already this season, I feel they can get a win here to be honest. Leverkusen’s away form has been very poor too, and I’d be happy with a small bet on the home win here at 2.7 in what should be another very interesting night ahead!
