INTERNATIONAL FRIENDLIES WEDNESDAY: Our European football tipster The Ultra previews three international friendlies on Wednesday with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

GERMANY V TURKEY
7.45pm We have a massive couple of days of International Football coming up, but we start with some big name friendlies on Wednesday night! The sides playing tonight have Nations League action at the weekend, and this will just be a warm up for those fixtures. Germany take on Turkey and it’ll be very interesting to see how Turkey get on after finishing second behind France in European Qualifying. It’s fair to say that apart from France they had an easy Group, but in their two fixtures against France they came away with a win at home and a draw away.
Germany have gone through a lot of squad changes in recent years, and while they aren’t the force of old, they are still right at the top of International Football. They topped their European Qualifying Group with Netherlands after finishing last behind Netherlands and France at the 2019 Nations League. I wouldn’t be rushing to back Germany at 1.42, even allowing for this being a friendly. Germany tend to have a lot of goals in their games but Turkey always keep things tight. In a friendly with more important games at the weekend, I think we will see a low tempo game with few chances. Under 2.5 goals is worth a small investment.

NETHERLANDS V MEXICO
7.45pm It’s not often we get to see a fixture like this so that makes for an excellent friendly. Usually we only see fixtures like this at the World Cup. Netherlands have an excellent young side now after missing major tournament for a few years. They will be delighted to have qualified for the Euro’s and now the challenge is to top their Nations League Group again and possibly win the tournament after losing in the 2019 Final. Mexico are a very solid side though, and while these friendlies aren’t cut-throat affairs we should see a high quality game here.
Netherlands are away to Bosnia & Herzegovina on Sunday, and this is an excellent warm-up fixture in Amsterdam. Even though I rate this Netherlands side and they are very impressive, I think they are a little too short at 1.8 here. Mexico have a very good side, and they will be motivated to beat a side like Netherlands even allowing for the fact this is a meaningless friendly. I can see the game being a lot closer than odds of 1.8 suggest and from a value point of view I’m happy to lay the Netherlands.

PORTUGAL V SPAIN
7.45pm It’s fair to say that this is the glamour fixture of the night. Both sides have tough games at the weekend in the Nations League – especially Portugal who have France away from home, while Spain have home advantage against Switzerland and should win. This fixture should put both sides spot on. Many football fans said Spain’s run at the top table of International Football was over after the World Cup performance, but they bounced back to top their European Qualifying Group, although clearly tougher tests lie ahead.
Portugal are an aging side now. And it will be interesting to see what Starting XI they name here considering they have such a tough game at the weekend. It’s fair to say that they are unlikely to defend their Nations League title, and they didn’t even top their European Qualifying Group with Ukraine finishing three points ahead of them. It’s not a surprise we have such an open market here, but I like Spain as the value at 2.72. Portugal don’t score enough goals for me, and Spain can grind out a 1-0 or 2-0 win.
