LOOKING FORWARD TO MORE GOOD FOOTBALL: I’m really looking forward to this weekend. There is so much sport on and the Premier League is back in full swing again with some cracking games.
As a punter, it’s hard to know where to go with the Spurs – Liverpool game. You’ve got a new manager, new tactics, you’ve got players that have a much more settled way of playing and Dortmund’s manager, Klopp, has come to Liverpool. This is a tough one to call.
One thing that you would have to say about Klopp’s team, there is always goals in his side. He’s not afraid to lose football matches but he always wants to get goals and I like Both Teams to Score in this.
This is a really hard one to call a winner for because you’ve got a team that is stable that have kept with their manager and let him build a team. There has been a lot of changes at Spurs but they are a steady side. Now they’re taking on a side in Liverpool that have been slightly erratic. Strange things happened under Brendan, with personnel and formations.
I think we’ll get a clear indication pretty quickly about what Klopp wants and I think the Liverpool fans will like how adventurous and aggressive teams are for him.
For a bet, I’d just edge for the Draw, it’s so hard to say if any team will win it but one thing that I think will definitely happen is that both teams will score and that’s another good bet.
Certainly we should see some goals from Liverpool but Pochettino’s side should do as well but they are slightly weaker defensively. Harry Kane, I think, will do well from now until the end of the season. He’s had his time where he wasn’t banging in loads of goals but I think he’ll start performing now in the way that we know he can. Delle Alli is another that’s starting to hit some form, as is Lamela who is doing much better, they look like they’ve gelled together much better. This should be a really good game.
SOUTHAMPTON CAN TAKE ANOTHER WIN
When I was looking at the games, one that stood out was Southampton at home to Leicester. I thought Southampton were brilliant against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
They’ve got some players that are really starting to hit form now. With the exception of maybe Diego Costa, I think Peller is one of the best big centre forwards in the country. He has been excellent for the last year and a half. I just think he’s got so much to his game; you can ping the ball up to him, he can hold it off, he can make things difficult, he can score goals and he’s always moving and with the likes of Mané and Tadic behind him, Southampton could be a real handful and I think Leicester will find this a tough game.
I wasn’t that surprised that Southampton won the last day, but I was surprised with how easily they won. They absolutely tore Chelsea apart. There are a lot of things that I like about them and I know it’s always hard coming off a big win like that but there’s been an International break and I think Southampton are a real difficult team to play against and they will go for this one.
This is a big ask for Leicester, they’ve had a really good start to the season but this will be difficult and I’m going for Southampton to win this one.
SCORELESS BOREFEST IN STORE
It’s not often that I would ever go for a nil all draw, and I hate doing it, but I can’t see anything different between West Brom and Sunderland. Both teams are likely to park the bus and I haven’t seen anything from either side to suggest that either can score.
West Brom have been beaten in their last three games, Sunderland have a new manager and I just can’t see anything other than a nil-nil draw. After a couple of defeats, Tony Pulis will want to get at least a point out of this one. First game of the season, they got beaten by Man City three nil and then the next game was a nil all draw. Same thing after a loss to Chelsea and they drew nil all with Port Vale. That’s what Tony does and he sets out to do it.
These two managers are two that have survived by being well drilled and hard to break down and hard to beat. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Sunderland making things very difficult for them and I wouldn’t be too surprised to see West Brom play four center halves, he’s done it a few times already.
As a one off, I’m going to go with a nil all draw. If you want a little insurance, you could go for Under 2.5 goals which I think is an absolute certainty. Neither team really look like they’ve threatened to score so far this season and maybe there will be a winner but I can’t see there being more than 2 goals and one of the big things that Sam Allardyce will want is a clean sheet.
EVERTON AT HOME MIGHT SHADE IT
This could be a tough game for United. Martinez teams are generally quite difficult to beat at home. He’s a really good manager that should be with one of the top teams, his style of managing is probably more suitable for one of the top teams. Everton are a dangerous side and they can beat the very best.
I was very surprised by how poor Man United were against Arsenal. Wayne Rooney probably had the worst game I’ve seen him have against Arsenal. He looked really out of sorts that day and because they’ve gone with Martial, Mata and Memphis, Rooney hasn’t quite fitted in that well with them with how he’s performed with them so far. There are some things that are just not right with United, they’re nearly there but not quite.
It’s a tough one to call but I think Everton might just get this one. Everton are good against a certain type of team and I’m not really sure how United are going to go about this one to get the better of them. They atmosphere at Goodison is usually probably one of the best in the country and I’d imagine it will be the same against United and it’s hard place to play.
