RESULTS NEEDED AT THE TOP: This is a real crunch week at the top of the table in the Premier League. Two of the top three teams have very winnable games, and then Spurs face a tough clash against Champions League chasers, Man United. Looking for a bounce back week after results going against me last weekend, I want to get back to winning form.
LEICESTER TO WRAP UP THE LEAGUE
I have been pro Leicester all year, as i think almost everybody will have been. I mean, who doesn’t love a good underdog story? They have been flying high all year and i think this will continue this weekend as they travel to face strugglers Sunderland.
Sunderland have been playing better lately, but they simply are not winning matches. With them sitting behind Norwich in the table with games running out, you would feel they need to go for a victory this week if they have any hope of escaping relegation. This will open up the game for a Leicester side, that simply put are better than the players on this Sunderland team.
Last week I mentioned how Sunderland’s attack was lackluster, but this week I think they will struggle defensively. When you look at Kaboul going up against Vardy you have to feel there are goals to be scored for Leicester. He doesn’t have the pace to keep up, but as well as that, Kaboul is very prone to fall asleep at the back. When looking at the prices in this one, it really doesn’t reflect top of the league versus a bottom three side. You can get Leicester at around 2.3 at the moment which is excellent value.
Sunderland are really battling for their place in the league, but I don’t think Leicester will be caught off guard at this stage in the season. If they win this, they could very much have the league sewn up, with only 9 points required to guarantee victory. I think they have what it takes to get another impressive away win. Verdict – Back Leicester.
SPURS TO TRY KEEP PRESSURE ON
With Spurs playing after Leicester on Sunday, the pressure could really be on them if Leicester beat Sunderland. They will be struggling to keep up, and will be mindful that if they slip up in any more games, the league is as good as gone. Then you look at United, they are battling to make it into the Champions League next season and need to continue picking up points.
To me, Man United have still be lumbering through games, sure they have got some wins under their belt lately, but they still aren’t playing great football. It is not as if they are blowing teams away and scoring lots of goals. They are struggling to get their wins, and this week I think they’ll fall short. Spurs have had a great season, even if they end up runners up, befoe the season that would have been seen as a great success. I think this is a team that will stick together for a few years and really challenge each year.
I think Harry Kane will be the difference here. He has really taken his game to the next level this year, scoring goals like Alan Shearer and Teddy Sheringham did in years past. With Lamela coming back into the team as well, I think they have a clear advantage. United are still an average side. I’ve heard many talking of Smalling and how good he has been this year. I don’t think he has been anything special, he has been decent and that is all. Any other year he wouldn’t be considered player of the year, it just shows how united have fallen. Although they both have lots to play for, I think Spurs form over the season will show through. Verdict – Back Spurs
ARSENAL TURN IT ON TOO LATE
I think Arsenal are out of the title race at this stage. There is too much ground for them to make up on Leicester, and not enough games. As is true Arsenal fashion, I think they will start playing great football again now that it is too late. Again making fans dream of what could have been if they had kept this form all year. Then looking forward with optimism, only to experience the same thing next year.
West Ham have had a great season under Bilic. They are playing good football and found an absolute steal in Payet. They do struggle a bit defensively however, often giving up cheap goals, and an in form Arsenal side will pounce on them. So long as Arsenal don’t give up free kicks around the box, they should have enough to get the better of West Ham. With a win they can keep up the pressure on their arch rivals Spurs, which at this stage is their biggest goal. Verdict – Back Arsenal
