PREMIER LEAGUE & CHAMPIONSHIP I am going to throw in another match from the Cahmpionship this week as there is some real value to be had for me. Elsewhere we have some quality action in the Premier League, with the Man City v Liverpool game being the main highlight.
Sheffield Wednesday v Reading
7.45pm Friday Being close to evens is an excellent price for Sheffield Wednesday against a Reading side who I feel is hitting the wall somewhat. They have stagnated a bit in the past few weeks and I feel they may actuall struggle to make the Playoffs with Fulham creeping ever closer. Of course this would mean Sheffield Wednesday would move ahead of Reading in the table and with their recent form I could even see them reaching Leeds in 4th position. I think the rest of these sides season’s are going to go opposite directions. Sheffield Wednesday look like they are gearing up for a run where as Reading look to be just holding on for a Playoff spot.
Sheffield Wednesday have some very handy players in their side, and I have been hugely impressed by Jordan Rhodes up front this season. I think he can do real damage to this Reading defence. With Wednesday’s form being so good at home I think 1.9 is a very solid price for tonight’s game. They have been playing good football lately, especially at home and I think they can make their move up the table and strengthen their grip on a playoff spot tonight.

Back Sheffield Wednesday at 1.9.

Crystal Palace v Watford
3.00pm Saturday Crystal Palace are still in the midst of a relegation battle but at least for them at this stage they are outside of the bottom three. This is shaping up to look like a classic Big Sam situation. He is the ultimate manager to come in and save a sinking ship. When he took over at Sunderland in his last job he lost eight out of his first eleven games but then was able to turn things around.
When you look at this Crystal Palace side compared to other struggling teams you can see they have more quality in the team. The likes of Benteke, Zaha and Cabaye have all played for top sides in the past few seasons. They may not have made it at these sides but there definitely is plenty of quality there. When they buy into Big Sam’s way fully I can’t see them going for the drop at the end of the season.
Watford look to be comfortably outside of the relegation zone, they are almost in that ‘nothing’ place at this stage of the season. They don’t look like they will go down, but they also don’t look like making any moves up the table either. With Crystal Palace having so much more to play for, as well as being at home I think they will get the win this week. Beating West Brom last weekend would have been a massive boost for them, and I expect that to continue.

Back Crystal Palace at 1.94.

Man City v Liverpool
4.30pm This is a huge game, not only because it is two of the biggest clubs in England right now but also because it could determine so much for the rest of the season. Liverpool currently sit one spot and one point behind Man City in the table but have played a game more. If they lose on Sunday then it creates a clear gap between the teams and it would look like Liverpool will be in a battle for fourth with Arsenal and Man United. If they win however it keeps this highly entertaining battle between five teams for the Champions League (Chelsea of course being safe for that other spot).
Man City are coming off a very tough loss in the Champions League as they were dumped out by a youthful Monaco side. That will have really hurt Pep’s side considering they went into the game with a two goal lead. It also would have taken an awful lot out of them. They had such a poor first half that they would have had to come out with all guns blazing in the second half which must have left some fatigue on their legs. This is a pivotal game for them coming off such a loss. If they lose again then that could be a trend for the rest of the year even though you’d expect them to kick themselves into gear again.
Liverpool have had a full week to rest for this game. They will of course be up for it, looking at their results against all the top sides you know that they will put in a big performance on Sunday. It seems to suit Liverpool better when the opposition really go for it. If the other team sits back and invites Liverpool to break them down then they struggle. We know from during the week Man City will not do that. Even with a two goal lead Man City didn’t sit back and it proved costly, but Pep is set in his ways and will refuse to play a defensive game. Given their week off and their performances against the top sides this season I’m going to go with Liverpool here.

Back Liverpool at 3.9.
