It’s the ‘steel city’ and the final of the ‘3 steps to victory’.
A competition that’s run over 480m, 500m and the finals over 680m. It’s not a punting race as it’s full of a lot of early pace four bend non stayers. The vote just goes to Welton Arthur, who’s got stamina and proven six bend form in the book. Trap 2, Romeo Recruit spells the danger but is unproven past 515 at Hove so his stamina has to be taken on trust.
The curtain has just come down on the Crucible but Sheffield stays in my focus. I don’t need 15 reds, I just need one and that is Trap 1 GREENISLE GIANT in the 8.04 660yds who has a bursting draw.
The form of the race is closely tied together but when a dog is crying out for his trap I want to be on and he doesn’t have to lead to win.
Of the others, Trap 2 Swabys Princess has won 10/47 career starts but is a slow away back runner who has had a long spell off the track.
Trap 3 Farloe Kyle knows his way round here and is trained by the all conquering Barry Draper. 11/36 career starts, 4/11 over CD, early pace middle, has gone five runs without a win and has it all to do to lead Trap 5 at the bend.
Trap 4 Hather Sherlock, another local trained dog by Elaine Parker, slow away wide runner who was lucky to get verdict over our selection on the 7th of April run by a short head. Trap 4 won’t suit it – he’s made 14 starts in traps other than 6 and has only won one of them.
Trap 5 Aghaburren Paddy trained by Charlie Lister OBE who is his fourth trainer. On Coventry and Sheffield times I think he will find a couple too speedy for him.
Tp 6 Granard Bound 10/36 career starts, 1/2 CD, 1/4 sheffield, 1/12 out of 6 and hasnt won over six bends since Aug 2012. I don’t think he will clear 5 or stay.
