WEEK AHEAD: Cricket takes centre stage this week on the sporting front, with both England’s ODI and Test sides in action.
All of a sudden English cricket appears to be in rude health again, with both the Test and One Day side firing on all cylinders.
Last week, England broke their own ODI runs record, scoring a whopping 498 in 50 overs in their first match against the Netherlands, with Phil Salt, Dawid Malan and Jos Buttler all scoring centuries. They will be looking for a similar performance in the third and final match against the Netherlands which gets underway at 10:00 (Sky Sports) on Wednesday. Can they threaten the record again?
On Thursday it’s the turn of England’s Test side against New Zealand. Having already been victorious in the series, Ben Stokes’ men will have a chance to secure a 3-0 whitewash with a win at Headingly. Play on day one gets underway at 11:00 on Sky Sports. There’s also golf from both the DP World and PGA Tours. The BMW Invitational (11:30, Sky Sports) was won by Viktor Hovland last year and the Norwegian could be set to defend his title. The Travelers Championship has an impressive roll call of winner in recent years. Play from TPC River Highlands in Connecticut begins at 11:45 on Sky Sports.
Friday brings a similar schedule, with England and New Zealand starting off the day at 11:00 on Sky Sports before play from round two at the BMW Invitational and the Travelers Championship begins at 11:30 and 11:45 respectively (both Sky Sports).
Things will be beginning to get interesting in both the cricket and golf by Saturday. The weekend could prove crucial in the Test match. Catch every ball from 11:00 on Sky Sports. In the golf, the cut will have been made and the remaining players will all have their eyes on the main prize. Choose whether to watch the BMW Invitational from Munich or action Stateside from the Travelers Championship, with play beginning at both events at 12:30 on Sky Sports. In the evening, unbeaten young British boxer Adam Azim will bid to win the fifth fight of his career and hope to enhance his impressive 75-percent knockout record in the process. The action comes from the Coventry Skydome and is live from 19:00 on Sky Sports.
