WEEK AHEAD: The first week of August is action-packed with top tier Cricket, PGA Tour Golf, and the opening weekend of The Championship.

After a subdued period of reflection since the Euros, we’re back firing on all cylinders as the Olympics comes to a close and the Championship returns.

We start the week on Monday back in Tokyo with more Olympics coverage on BBC and with the hope of more medal success for Great Britain. The coverage is widespread and will continue throughout the week until it all comes to an end on Sunday. Also continuing into the new week is crickets new marmite format, The Hundred. Starting us off are the Oval Invincibles and Welsh Fire on Sky Sports at 18:30, but the games come thick and fast throughout the week with daily action.

On Tuesday, the West Indies and Pakistan take afternoon honours on BT Sport with their final T20 game of the series which is all set for a thriller having had fireworks in their matches so far. London Spirit and the Northern Superchargers then pick up The Hundred baton in the evening.

It’s officially the start of the Test summer on Wednesday and what a Test series we are in for as England and India get underway on day one. This highly anticipated matchup will be an enthralling battle and Joe Root’s men will be out for revenge after their most recent tour of Virat Kohli’s India. All five days, should it last that long, can be seen on Sky Sports from 11:00.

The WGC Fed Ex St Jude Classic gets underway on Thursday and with some high-profile names already committed it should be a great watch. As ever, the action can be seen daily on Sky Sports until the tournament’s culmination on Sunday.

Friday brings with it the start of a new season in the Championship and taking first honours are Bournemouth and West Brom. They get things started at the traditional 19:45 on Sky Sports before there is even more action to contend with on Saturday which includes, but is not limited to, Dundee welcoming Rangers, the third Test between South Africa and the Lions, and two further Championship games.

Sunday is not one to be missed, with the final day of the Olympics, the final day of the England and India Test, and the final day’s play from Memphis. There are also two more games from the Championship in the shape of Fulham and Middlesbrough, and a trip to Coventry for Nottingham Forest. Rounding off the day is another fixture from The Hundred and by then the tournament will be starting to get seriously competitive.

We enjoyed the break while it lasted but now it’s time to get back to full tilt.
