WEEK AHEAD: There’s lots to look forward to this week as the Premier League returns, the Six Nations continues and the Super Bowl provides a fitting climax to round off the week.
Monday offers a chance to prepare for the coming week, with a rare day of rest from live action.
On Tuesday, the Premier League is back in full swing with three evening kick-offs. There’s Newcastle v Everton, as well as West Ham v Watford at 19:45, where new Hornet’s boss Roy Hodgson will be hoping to start off on a positive note. At 20:00 Man United are at Turf Moor to face Burnley. All games are live on BT Sport.
New Brentford signing Christian Eriksen still might not be quite ready when they travel to face the league leaders Man City at 19:45 (BT Sport) on Wednesday evening, but manager Thomas Frank is hoping to have the former Tottenham midfielder ready soon. Elsewhere Eriksen’s old club Spurs are at home to Southampton and Norwich face Crystal Palace. Aston Villa play Leeds in a 20:00 kick-off, also on BT Sport.
Thursday begins with golf and the second tournament in as many weeks from Ras al Khaimah in the UAE (08:30, Sky Sports). Following that at 14:00 (Sky Sports) there’s action from the first round of the Waste Management Phoenix Open, at the unique Stadium Course in Arizona. Week 2 of the Premier League of Darts begins at 19:00 on Sky Sports, before two games in the Premier League, with an intriguing clash between Liverpool and Leicester and also Wolves v Arsenal at 19:45. Friday’s action sees round two get under way in the golf, with coverage beginning at the same times on Sky Sports. Before a big weekend of Six Nations international there’s a grudge match in the Gallagher Premiership between Leicester Tigers and Northampton Saints (19:45, BT Sport) that should whet the appetite for what’s to come.
On Saturday catch the third round from the Ras al Khaimah Classic from 08:30, before an early kick-off between Man United and Southampton at 12:30 (BT Sport). The first match of the day in the Six Nations looks a fascinating tie between holders Wales and a Scotland side that have been quietly fancied to do well after their win over England (14:15, BBC). The form team going into the tournament however are Ireland, who have gone eight matches unbeaten, but their title credentials will be tested by Les Bleus in the Stade De France (16:45, ITV). The third round of the Phoenix Open should extend well into the evening, but it begins at 16:00 on Sky Sports. Flick over to watch Norwich take on Man City at 17:30.
No time to rest this Sunday, as the Ras al Khaimah Classic draws to a conclusion from 08:30. Saracens take on Harlequins at 13:00 (BT Sport), while Aston Villa are away to Newcastle at 14:00 (Sky Sports). England will look to get their Six Nations campaign back on track at 15:00 (ITV) and should have the beating of Italy. At 16:30 Leicester play West Ham on Sky Sports. The final round of the Phoenix Open (16:00, Sky Sports) should provide plenty of drama, as the players approach the amphitheatre-like 16th green – almost entirely surrounded by stands.
It still won’t have anything on Super Bowl LVI though. Get ready for all the glitz and glamour of the America’s ultimate spectacle, when the Los Angeles Rams clash with the Cincinnati Bengals from 23:30 on Sky Sports.
