WEEK AHEAD: The football season is officially set to return with the kick-off of the Championship on Friday so if the golf and cricket haven’t been enough to excite you over the summer, there isn’t much longer to wait!
Monday is a fairly eventless day in the sporting world with no major televised fixtures but if you do fancy having a horse racing bet, the Galway Races get underway over in Ireland.
It’s already been a jam-packed season for horse racing fans and the highlight that is the Goodwood Festival gets underway on ITV from 13:00 and eases us into another busy week of all sorts of sport. Tuesday evening will be an exciting one, as the Lionesses take on either Sweden in the semi-final of their already very impressive Women’s Euros campaign (20:00, BBC). Can Sarina Wiegman’s side go all the way?
Day two of the Goodwood Festival (13:30, ITV) kicks us into gear on Wednesday, with the highlight on the card the Group One Sussex Stakes, before England take on South Africa in the first of their three-game T20 series (18:00, Sky). The second of the Women’s Euros semi-finals will feature Germany and France, with the kick off at 20:00 on the BBC.
The Hero Open starts on Thursday at 12:00 on Sky, before more golf gets underway at the Rocket Mortgage Classic for its first day at 12:00 (Sky). Goodwood continues at 13:30 on ITV before the second T20 between England and South Africa begins at 18:00 (Sky).
Friday eases us into another busy weekend with the Hero Open day two, which tees off at 12:00 (Sky) before The Rocket Mortgage Classic heads into its second day at 12:00 on Sky. Goodwood continues its fourth day at 13:30 on ITV before the first game of the Championship season kicks off with Huddersfield taking on Burnley at 19:00 on Sky.
Saturday sees the Hero Open tee off for its third day (11:00, Sky) before the Scottish Premiership gets underway with Livingston taking on Rangers at 12:00 (Sky). The Rocket Mortgage Classic also continues for its third day (12:30, Sky) and Goodwood Festival for its fifth and final day at 13:00 on ITV. One of the highlights of the beginning of the football season is the Community Shield match which will be played at 17:00 (ITV) between Liverpool and Manchester City, before the Championship well and truly gets going with another fixture as Middlesbrough take on West Brom at 17:30 (Sky).
The week is rounded off on Sunday with the final days of the golf at The Hero Open and the Rocket Mortgage Classic. (11:00, Sky and 12:30, Sky respectively). Another exciting Championship fixture in Sunderland v Coventry is to be played at 12:00 on Sky before the F1 season continues with the Hungarian Grand Prix at 14:00 (Sky). Is Hamilton closing in on a first victory this season? England and South Africa play their third T20 test (14:00, Sky) before Celtic take on Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership at 16:30 (Sky).
A busy week that sees the return of domestic English football is rounded off fittingly with the UEFA Women’s Euro Final which is to be played at Wembley and will be broadcasted from 17:00 on the BBC. Can the Lionesses go one step further than the men’s team last year?
