WEEK AHEAD: With the Premier League back in full swing and the first round of Champions League and Europa League fixtures, this week is packed with footballing action.
There’s a low-key beginning to the week as Everton travel to Turf Moor on Monday evening to face Burnley. After an unbeaten start to the season, Rafael Benitez’s side will be hopeful of securing another three points.
Manchester United should be able to achieve a similar result as they begin their Champions League campaign on Tuesday away to Young Boys in Switzerland, while in a later kick off Chelsea host Zenit St Petersburg at 20:00.
On Wednesday the final two Premier League sides are in action at 20:00, with Liverpool’s tie with AC Milan one of the fixtures of the round, while Manchester City take on last season’s Bundesliga runners-up RB Leipzig.
On Thursday there is some action for golf fans as the Dutch Open gets underway from 12:30 live on Sky Sports. Sergio Garcia won this in 2019, which was his last win on the European Tour to date.
In the evening there is a feast of football with five British clubs in action in the Europa League. In the earlier 17:45 kick offs, West Ham and Celtic are all on their travels as they face Dinamo Zagreb and Real Betis. There are then two more interesting looking ties live from 20:00 when Leicester City host Napoli and Steven Gerrard’s Rangers side take on Lyon at Ibrox. All Champions League and Europa League fixtures are live across the BT Sport network.
Round two of the Dutch Open gets underway on Friday and there is more football again in the evening with Newcastle taking on Leeds at 20:00 on Sky Sports.
On Saturday all eyes will be on Brentford to see if the newly promoted side can continue their impressive start when they take on Wolves in the 12:30 kick off, live on BT Sport. Later at 17:30 on Sky Sports, Aston Villa and Everton face off in what could be another closely fought encounter. There’s also some late-night golf action with the Safeway Open from the Silverado Resort, California beginning at 23:00 on Sky Sports.
West Ham fans won’t welcome the sight of Cristiano Ronaldo lining up against them when they play Manchester United at 14:00 on Sunday at the London Stadium. Both teams are unbeaten so far this season, so it looks set to be another interesting watch. In the later kick off at 16:30, Chelsea take on Spurs in another top of the table clash that is sure to produce fireworks.
