WEEK AHEAD: The Ryder Cup will take centre stage for many this week and the excitement for golf fans should be at fever pitch by the time the players tee off on Friday.
Golf aside, the week takes a bit of time to grind into gear after the early Monday morning NFL clash between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Blatimore Ravens.
There’s more action from stateside early on Tuesday morning, as the Green Bay Packers play Detroit Lions. In the evening Norwich host Liverpool in the third round of the League Cup, a competition the Reds will be looking to win for a record ninth time this season. Tune in to Sky Sports from 19:45.
Wednesday brings more League Cup action and this time it is the turn of Manchester United and West Ham as they face each other for the second time in four days.
Thursday brings a lull in televised sporting action, but for cricket fans who are feeling deprived of action after England and India’s final Test cancellation, England Women take on New Zealand Women in their second ODI.
On Friday, the 43rd Ryder Cup gets underway from Whistling Straits, Wisconsin. Europe will be looking to retain the trophy after a comfortable 17½ – 10½ point victory in France three years ago, but in opposition they face the best US team since world rankings began in 1986. It’s sure to be a titanic battle on the shores of Lake Michigan, with the action live on Sky Sports from 13:00.
In the evening, there is a tough-to-call match in the Championship when second in the table West Brom host seventh placed QPR.
On Saturday there is plenty to get stuck into. In the clash of the weekend in the Premier League, Chelsea take on Manchester City at Stamford Bridge, as both teams look to set out their stall for this season’s title. You can watch live on BT Sport from 12:30.
The four-ball and foursome Ryder Cup matches continue on Saturday from 13:00, but if the action is still too sedate then flick over for Russian Grand Prix Qualifying also at 13:00 on Sky Sports. Later in the evening Brentford face the biggest challenge so far of their new Premier League venture when they face Liverpool at 17:30.
Form there all action is geared towards the evening and two huge boxing bouts in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London. On the undercard, WBO cruiserweight champion Lawrence Okolie takes on Dilan Prasovic before the bout that has been billed as “The Perfect Storm” sees Anthony Joshua pitted against challenger Oleksandr Usyk. Tickets to stream the fight can be booked on Sky Box Office, with the action getting under way at 19:00.
On Sunday it’s pedal to the metal on Sky Sports, with the Russian Grand Prix from 13:00. In a 14:00 kick-off Southampton are at home to Wolves, before the North London Derby at 16:30 when Arsenal go in hunt of a much-needed 3 points against Tottenham.
But the week builds to 17:00 with the final round of the Ryder Cup and the 12 singles matches which will decide the outcome of the famous trophy for another two years. Will it go all the way to the 18th green?
