4pm What a superb tournament the World Cup has been, and we finish on Sunday afternoon as France take on Croatia. We’ve had so much drama and excellent moments; hopefully we get a World Cup Final to remember because the tournament deserves it. France have had an ideal run to the Final – they have had some touch games to get through however they have been able to do it without too much fuss. They are simply ‘getting the job done’ while Croatia come into the Final from a totally different path. They’ve needed Extra Time or Penalties in their three knockout games – they remarked after the England game that the press coverage of this gave them the determination to fight against the tiredness and “show them who is tired” however it has to take it’s toll at some stage.
Perhaps today is that day. They won’t have the push to fight from the English press here and they are coming up against better quality opposition too. France come into the game having beaten Uruguay and Belgium without conceding a goal – Uruguay had been impressive and many peoples dark horses but they breezed past them, while Belgium had obviously beaten Brazil and had a lot of attacking talent – however they managed to keep them out too.
A lot has been said about the attacking talent of the French, however they have been excellent at the back in the tournament too – maybe apart from the crazy 4-3 win against Argentina; however Argentina turned that into a very open game and France out gunned them. Croatia have obviously struggled to beat sides given how much Extra Time they’ve had to play and that will prove to be the difference here.
We can see France scoring against this Croatia side from any part of the pitch, while you just don’t get the same feeling when thinking about how Croatia will score against France. Obviously Modric has been a star man of the whole tournament – however he looked very tired at the end of the England game and this French midfield can keep him quiet. We feel that France at 1.93 looks massive and indeed could be one of the best bets of the tournament!
