WORLD CUP PLAYOFF: We preview Monday’s second leg game between ITALY v SWEDEN with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
ITALY V SWEDEN
7.45pm We arrive here with the tie perfectly poised after Sweden won the first leg at home 1-0. Obviously Italy need to win, and they are heavy favourites to win in 90 minutes, with the match odds at the time of writing currently trading; Italy 1.57, Sweden 7.8 and the draw is 4.1. Things are a lot closer in the ‘To Qualify’ market, with Italy trading 2.02 and Sweden 1.97.
Sweden will take hope from looking at Italy’s last home game when they drew 1-1 with Macedonia – a pretty big shock. While Italy will be focusing on Sweden’s poor recent away record, they’ve only won once in their last four away from home and that was against Belarus. They’ve been beaten by Netherlands, Bulgaria and drew 1-1 with Norway – Italy are better than these sides, and Sweden will have to perform better away from home here if they are to get to the World Cup.
If you like omens, Sweden hosted the World Cup in 1958, and that was the only edition of the tournament that Italy have missed! This is a huge night for Italy, rumours have been circling since the draw with Macedonia that the players aren’t happy with the manager. Opinions will surely be put aside tonight though, with their place in the World Cup at stake.
We feel that Italy can turn things around and qualify, and the 2.02 to do so appeals as value. They had the better chances in the first leg but just failed to convert them. They saw more of the ball and controlled most of the game – with Sweden having a poor away record, we can’t see Italy not controlling this game, and hopefully they can take their chances this time.
