WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS: We preview Monday’s World Cup Qualifiers between WALES v REPUBLIC OF IRELAND with a recommended BETDAQ bet for each game. A win for either side guarantees their place in the playoffs.
WALES V REPUBLIC OF IRELAND
7.45pm What a massive game. A win for either side would guarantee their place in the playoffs – however even though a draw for Wales would see them finish second in Group D, it might not necessarily mean they qualify for the playoffs with only eight of the nine second place teams advancing. FIFA aren’t taking into account the points gained from last place in each group, and things are quite tight if Wales were to draw – so really both sides have to go all out for the win, what an occasion it will be!
The match odds at the time of writing currently trade; Wales 2.4, Republic Of Ireland 3.55 and the draw is 3.3. Wales are undoubtedly finishing the Group stronger than Ireland – they’ve won all of their last three games while before that they managed draws away to Group leaders Serbia and also a 0-0 draw in Dublin against Ireland. Ireland have given themselves work to do after only getting one point from their two games during the last International break, and hardly set the world alight against Moldova on Friday night.
The thing about Ireland is though; as we have seen time and time again, is that they play their best football when backed into a corner – backed into a ‘need to win’ situation. That’s just what they have tonight, and it wouldn’t surprise anyone if they put on a display similar to the one we saw against Italy at Euro 2016 when they won 1-0. Ireland are also unbeaten away from home in qualifying – so without Bale it looks likes the 2.4 on Wales is short.
Bale has scored four of their seven goals they’ve had at home in qualifying, and while they did manage to beat Georgia away on Friday without him – Georgia were on top for large parts of that game, and there wasn’t many chances for Wales. Based on everything going into this game, you’d have to feel that Wales are short at 2.4 – this game just feels like it will be a lot closer than those odds suggest, and from a value point of view we have to lay Wales at the odds.
