Now that England have safely booked their place at Euro 2012, attention can once again turn back to domestic action and what a game we have to get it all started.
The Northwest derby produced two thrillers last year and I’m expecting more of the same when Liverpool welcome Manchester United to Anfield tomorrow. King Kenny has done a brilliant job at steadying the ship at Liverpool, after a very tough start to last season. They had a bit of a wobble a few weeks back, but now are back up and running, which is perfect timing for United’s visit.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s lot are playing some remarkable football this year and it’s hard to see who can stop them. With their new approach, they’re more likely to concede but score four the other end. This all makes for a fascinating match-up and it plays into the Reds’ hands. United have struggled at Anfield over the past few seasons and I can see an upset again here.
Luis Saurez will be a pain all day and Andy Carroll will be looking forward to lining up against Rio Ferdinand and co. The little Uruguayan is a good shout to get his name on the scoresheet and I like the Liverpool win for this one – available at around 3.05 on BETDAQ. I’d also chuck a bit of money on the 2-1 correct score.
Roberto Mancini’s side have an excellent chance of another three points at home when Villa visit. I saw Scotland’s game against Spain in the week and David Silva is playing some magical football at the moment. Silva has enough talent in his left foot to take anyone apart and that’s exactly what he did on Tuesday evening.
Villa will have to play close attention to the Spaniard, but even if they keep him quiet – there’s plenty of others to ruin the visitor’s afternoon. City haven’t even conceded at home in the league, which makes the 2-0 home win a very tempting bet.
Alan Pardew has been brilliant this season and he deserves all the plaudits he gets as his side sit in the Champions League places. Spurs make the trip north on Sunday afternoon and they’re on a good run themselves.
The Magpies look strong at the back and the centreback pairing of Fabricio Coloccini and Steve Taylor has been rock solid. I still feel Newcastle are lacking a genuine goalscorer that can bag 15 or so in the season and that’ll come back to get them later in the campaign. The draw looks the way to go here as the two clubs are likely to cancel each other out.
