MATCH OVERVIEW:
It’s do-or-die at the Cricket World Cup on Friday morning as Scotland and Zimbabwe face off to get to the next stage of the competition. We’ve already had so much drama in the early round of the competition, easy to know that the ICC are scrapping this stage for the next T20 World Cup. Perhaps with the results this week that will end the debate of not including the minnows in every World Cup to “avoid one sided games.” This promises to be another thriller, and there’s going to be a lot of pressure – I’m sure we’ll see the odds flip flop a lot in-running on BETDAQ Betting Exchange.
Scotland will be kicking themselves that they are in this position. It’s win or go home here; but they had one foot in the next stage when they had Ireland 61/4 after 9.3 overs chasing down 176/5. Scotland would have traded very short in-running and had the game in their hands only for Curtis Campher and George Dockrell to take the game away from them. I did say heading into this World Cup that George Dockrell was the most improved cricketer in the world this year and now Scotland know it! Zimbabwe started their campaign with a smooth win over Ireland, but couldn’t handle West Indies bowlers in their second game.
You have to say though it’s made for a brilliant situation in this Group; we have two knock outs and sure to have plenty of drama. Scotland have really fired with their batting, and big question here is can they not lose early wickets against this Zimbabwe seam attack?
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
Thankfully this game is taking place on Friday, because from Saturday onwards the forecast for Hobart looks very poor. It would have been a real shame to lose one of these sides without playing a game. We’ll get a better idea of the daily conditions for this game with Ireland v West Indies earlier, but in general batting hasn’t been as tough at Hobart as it looks at Geelong in the other group. You still definitely want to bat first if you win the toss – apart from that wonderful partnership from Ireland it has appeared to be an edge batting first. In a high pressure game you want every edge you can get.
RECOMMENDED BET:
Scotland shocked everyone when they beat West Indies in the opening game of this group, and they did that through some powerful batting. Their batting has been superb in the opening two games, and you’d have to fancy another solid display here. Zimbabwe set a big score against Ireland, but then didn’t deliver against the West Indies. I’m going to keep stakes small here before the toss because I think batting first will be an edge here, but Scotland do look the value at 2.5. I just expect a very close game here between two evenly matched sides. The Scotland batting has looked better than Zimbabwe so far; but granted both sides have star players that have to fire if they are going to win. Nevertheless we should have a very close game here and Scotland are the value.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
Scotland have played superbly well with the bat so far in this tournament, and I wouldn’t mind supporting them again here when batting. My main issue however is I’d only be really keen on supporting the side who bats first here. Batting first has definitely looked like a big edge, and granted the side batting first might crumble under the pressure of this game – that’s the chance I’m happy to take. Only the freak innings from Ireland gave a successful chase here, and the best in-play angle will be supporting the team who bats first here.
