West Indies v England 3rd ODI
MATCH OVERVIEW:
We have an ODI series decider on Sunday between West Indies and England on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. After all the talk of a white ball reboot, England failed to launch in the opening ODI. They batted very well on a tricky wicket to post 325 but their bowling let them down and West Indies chased it down. Chasing a score like that is almost unheard of in West Indies these days – we are getting used to the wickets being low and slow. In the 2nd ODI, West Indies were all out for 202 and England chased it down easily. I think that’s what most of us were expecting on this tour!
Nevertheless after all the drama and bounce backs; we arrive to Bridgetown Barbados with the series on the line. In cricket these days, there’s always a question of what context a series has. Especially now the ICC have done away with the ODI Super League which was supposed to give series’ like this meaning for World Cup qualification. In the grand scheme of things, this series is meaningless. It will be forgotten about by two weeks time. However, it is actually important for both sides – England need a series win after the World Cup disaster. Any series win over England is massive for the West Indies.
So, a big game for both sides then. It will be interesting to see what conditions we get; do West Indies feel they have a better chance on a flat wicket or some spin? Shai Hope is in excellent form, but the need someone to stick with him, and then the openers have to do better to provide a platform. Jos Buttler got a much needed 50 not out in the 2nd ODI; he desperately needed that for his confidence. An interesting game awaits!
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
Bridgetown will be a popular spot for England fans, and with the 1st T20 here too we can expect plenty of away support. This is one of the biggest and most used grounds in the West Indies, so everyone should have a fair idea of what conditions to expect. India played two ODI’s here in July and the first inning scores from them were; 114 all out (chased) and 181 all out (chased). West Indies managed to win one of those games too, which is a decent achievement even against the Indian second XI. The chasing side has won six of the last seven ODI’s here, so you have to bowl first if you win the toss.
RECOMMENDED BET:
It’s been interesting to see the odds move around in this series. England were very short for the 1st ODI which went wrong for favourite backers – they moved out to 1.45 for the 2nd ODI and they are trading a very similar price here at 1.46. I felt that was a little short based off the 1st ODI and expected conditions. England blew West Indies away in fairness, but I still feel that the 1.46 is a little too short. Bowling first is an obvious edge here, and that might go a long way to deciding the game. I’m going to keep stakes small of course, but I expect West Indies to make this one closer than the odds suggest; only back them if they bowl first however.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
With the ground history here and expected conditions, I really want to be with the side who bowls first here. I feel that will offer the best in-running trade, and I’m happy to focus on that. If England get to bowl first I’d expect a 1.01 train similar to the 2nd ODI; if West Indies bowl first then we will see a pretty even game and I’d expect West Indies to at least trade odds on at some point.
