⭕ 1.10 Cheltenham Six out of 10 in the decade of this conditional jockeys’ handicap hurdle have gone to Harry Fry 3 and David Pipe 3; all bar one were heavily backed.
Fry, who had two winners from three runners between Sunday and Wednesday, all strongly fancied, has just the one at Cheltenham today: Boothill (2.20). But Pipe has cut his entry to just the one.
Like last year, American Sniper fired two blanks in October before scoring last week. His 2023 strike was in this conditionals race. But today he has a 7lb penalty for last week’s win and he hasn’t put two wins together since November 2022.
Bath trainer Neil Mulholland is on a fine run this season of 47 winners, 43 seconds and 46 thirds, a punters’ delight with £36 profit to level stakes and no end of places for cover.
Significantly, his Double Powerful, who is on a six-timer for him in this, has won twice for today’s conditional, Dylan Johnston, but Dylan can’t claim and the five-year-old has 7lb extra for his fifth win in a row just a week ago.
In a head-to-head of prolific scorers, Fergal O’Brien’s Plaisir Des Flos is also on a six-timer, but young Jack Hogan can claim 3lb and Plaisir is comparatively fresh, on his second outing since the break. Fergal won this race in 2021.
If you are thinking of opposing the pair of sequence winners, be warned that seven of the last eight winners of this have been five-year-olds.
So, if anything can top Plaisir Des Flos or Double Powerful, it’s likely to be one from their own age group: Young Lucy, Tune In A Box or Stay If U Want To, who carried 12st last time he tried this trip at Wincanton but is claimer reduced to 10st 3lb today. Jonjo O’Neill won this race in 2018.

⭕ 1.45 Cheltenham Jonjo O’Neill, who is responsible for Stay If U Want To, has Jonjo junior riding Springwell Boy, who won at this meeting (2m 5f) a year ago and scored over shorter at Chepstow the last day.
Hyland won over the Cheltenham CD in October and Resplendent Boy goes for a hat-trick, up in trip and grade.
But very well in is Buddy One, clear in the ratings but getting weight from the top two. He won at this meeting last year, was runner-up in the Grade-1 Aintree Hurdle in April, and took the Guinness Chase at Galway last month, eased down. BETDAQ 4.5.
⭕ 2.20 Cheltenham As for Boothill, I’ll watch for him at his favourite track (Ascot) at the end of the month, after this return from 202 days off.
He saw the rear of both Jonbon and Edwardstone last season, and CD winner, Unexpected Party would do better in the rain.
Jonbon won this last year by a long nine lengths over Edwardstone, who was closer but still struggling behind a fluent Jonbon at Sandown in April, with Boothill fourth.

⭕ 2.55 Cheltenham (Cross Country) I’ve picked Gaboriot for this game after his running-on third in the Grand Sefton and he could become a Fortune Cookie for cross-country and even Grand National if nothing emerges, or reasserts, in this.
Balthazar King (today’s winner twice, 2013-14) was a hero of mine, though unfortunately we didn’t have Fortune Cookies at that time.
Back On The Lash (2021-23) is another dual winner, but his form has declined since, so likely favourite is Conflated, the Ryanair third, making his cross-country debut and pushing most of them out of the handicap proper.
Mister Coffey, third in the NH Chase and 8th in the Grand National, seems to have found his stayer’s metier but so hard to accept his 0-13 over fences; he’s without any sort of success since a hurdle win a good four years back!
Tommie Beau also stays very well but will need others to be off their game if he is to make all. He’s been better off doing that at Carlisle.
Fameaftertheglory, placed in the December cross-country here, has been in the frame in three banks races at Punchestown and goes well fresh.
But my idea of the winner is Sweet David, a strong cross-country player for Gaby Leenders in France, and thrown in off 10st 2lb. BETDAQ 10.2.
