2-1 NAP IN THREE OUT OF FOUR FOR DAQMAN: Three winners from four races of single bets chalked up 54 points profit yesterday from Royal Charm (nap, WON 2-1), Another For Joe (WON 11-4) and Royal Empire (WON 5-4).

NOW HE GOES FOR 7-2 SHOT: His nap today was around 4.6 on BETDAQ at Sandown at the time of writing the column. The rest of his selections are at Salisbury tonight.

There are 69 Flat-racing days to go. And the 2012 trainers’ title remains wide open, with John Gosden only £400,000 behind Aidan O’Brien and, numerically, Richard Hannon 13 short of Mark Johnston.

The jockeys’ race seems Richard Hughes for the taking, though you wouldn’t think so, with some fella called Victor offering 7-1 each of two, Ryan Moore and Silvestre De Sousa.

You can get 26.0 and 11.5 respectively on that duo in BETDAQ special bets, and 31.0 William Buick is also ahead of the bookie’s 25-1. Bet 365’s offers on the three challengers are a little better but that’s because they have Hughsie at 12-1 on. Ludicrous! Can I lay that with you, 365?

While Mark Johnston has no runners today – not a one at four meetings – Richard Hannon tries to make it a four-timer in the Listed juveniles’ race at Salisbury (6.35).

It’s the last of three consecutive two-year-old races in which Hannon runs two with Hughes on the short-priced one and Pat Dobbs taking the outsider.

In fact, Hannon has 40% of the Listed field, with Hughes apparently plumping for Havana Gold over Califante. It would be a major shock if the pair ‘get beat’ since both represent a touch of pattern class.

Havana Gold has already beaten Gimcrack fifth, Pearl Acclaim, and was winning at Deauville when the saddle slipped under Ryan Moore. Califante has already tried Group 3 at Deauville, and was not disgraced.

I’ll get round the problem by taking 7.4 Califante (Pat Dobbs) and putting Havana Gold in my Daq Multiples, taking my nap at odds against to go with it and produce a return similar to the single on Califante, in theory giving me two chances at a the same price.

It’s interesting to see what Hughes takes on and what he leaves out today. He rides three at Sandown for Hannon but then ignores five other Hannon runners there in order to get to Salisbury in time for the unraced Lilborne Eliza (5.30) and then Ronaldinho (6.05).

Again, Dobbs has edges over him: Ottauquechee (5.30) because he’s had two runs and Stiff Upper Lip as a handicap debutant getting more than a stone from Ronaldhino, but neither Dobbs mount has much to recommend them on the book.

And I really rate the 5.1 Ronaldhino (6.05), who scooted away from a previous winner in second and a Group performer in third at Kempton. He can give the weight to Ain’t Got A Scooby, a course winner over a furlong shorter but who beat ‘nothing’ that day.

Trend Is My Friend should return to form in the handicap (7.10) after an unlucky run under Eddie Ahern against strong opposition at Goodwood (Sir Graham Wade won it).
Eddie keeps the ride and Trend Is My Friend sticks to the kind of ground that brought him success at Sandown.

Varnish has to bounce back after a stinker at Brighton. There are other winners in the field, but I am most worried by Marmas, who seems to have a decent handicap mark.

Postscript has top weight at Sandown (4.35) but deserves it and, in fact, is only up a few pounds from his mark when easily taking a Haydock handicap under Jamie Spencer, who is back on board today.

Newnton Lodge has drifted like a lonely dog on a raft, out to 14.5 as I write. So, too, My Lord, and Devdas’ sole success was on an easy surface. That makes around 4.6 Postscript even better value.
