SUPERNAP AT SANDOWN: Daqman, who has landed a hat-trick of winning naps this week (Monday to Wednesday), is spending the winnings on strong fancies at Sandown today, including a supernap and a Derby horse.
GOSDENS ORGANISE DOUBLE
⭕ 1.50 Sandown (Esher Cup) Charlie Appleby, who has had 16 three-year-old winners this year, doesn’t usually descend into handicaps on turf.
And this downgrading with a hood applied after wind surgery suggests that the Haynes, Hanson and Clark winner in September, Look To The Stars, has not progressed.
Organise for Team Gosden (nine 3yo winners, seven on turf, which is one more than Appleby) was impressive as a 2yo, and the yard won this last year. First leg of the stable double with Field Of Gold.
I’M GOING ON KARL’S KING
⭕ 2.25 Sandown (Gordon Richards Stakes) Almeric won the Listed-level Feilden first time up last season over today’s trip and completed a hat-trick while the ground remained on the soft side.
This week’s sunny spell may not make this seasonal debut ideal, whereas firmish ground gave Karl Burke’s King Of Cities a Group-3 success last summer.
Saddadd won two handicaps when five times placed last season, one of them here at Sandown.
Devil’s Advocate has failed to place beyond handicap company on turf but has the advantage of a recent run and his stable has been striking at 33%.
GREY FOR GOLD IN THE SUN
⭕ 3.00 Sandown (Mile) Six winners in the last eight of this Group 2 came from the front of the market, including last year’s winning favourite, Dancing Gemini.
Since the Camelot entire then ran only at Group-1 level and was second twice – beaten a neck in the Lockinge – it seemed quite a snub by Betdaq Betting Exchange layers to offer 11.0 this morning.
But this year’s Lockinge is the target for the entire field t oday with the betting for Newbury similar to today’s for this Mile, but with Dancing Gemini out with the washing, 25-1 shot.
He is fully half a stone in the ratings behind Field Of Gold, the Kingman grey who won the Craven last season on the way to the Irish 2,000 Guineas and the St James’s Palace Stakes.
Zeus Olympios is unbeaten in four starts, culminating in a Group-2 over the Rowley Mile in the autumn when he readily held Opera Ballo.
Never So Brave won the Summer Mile at Ascot but his Group 1 came at York in August over 7f, as did his success for Sir Michael Stoute before he moved to Andrew Balding.
DERBY-TRIAL ACTION REWIND
⭕ 3.35 Sandown (Classic Trial) This race had 14 years as the platform to glory from 1973 to 1986 when it was won by subsequent Derby winners Troy, Henbit, Shergar and Shahrastani plus the French and Irish Derby winner Old Vic, the King George hero Bustino and the Arc winner Ksar.
But this century, not a lot. The year 2000 saw the winner of this trial, Sakhee, beaten only length in the Derby but there was no more to show until 22 years later, when Westover was third at Epsom, though Sandown second Adyar won at Epsom in 2021.
From the 2yo trials within this 3yo Trial, Action stands out today as half-length runner-up to stablemate Hawk Mountain in the Futurity, after his third to 2,000 Guineas favourite Bow Echo in the Royal Lodge.
Son Of Frankel, Action has the same grandaddy as dual Derby winner, Lambourn. I take him to win today and wind back to the great days of this Derby trial.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….
Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
