MURPHY’S MAGIC BREEDERS CUP RIDE: Aidan O’Brien become the most successful Breeders Cup trainer with 21 winners when Gstaad – tipped by Daqman – took the Juvenile Turf at Del Mar in the early hours of this morning but the sensation last night came in the fillies’ equivalent with a spectacular ride by Oisin Murphy on Donnacha O’Brien’s Balantina, on whom he had won only a Curragh maiden in May. She started at 206-10.

CADEAU GIFT AT BETDAQ 7.8

⭕ 2.05 Ascot In the absence of Martator, Paul Nicholls may have been presented with the first leg of a double across the cards with Sans Bruit.

The front-runner was only fifth in this chase a year ago and is usually a Spring horse, beating his nearest market rival here, Teddy Blue, out of sight in the Sussex Champion Chase at Plumpton in April.

And, when he won the Red Rum at Aintree, Petit Tonnerre and General Medrano were 20 and 30 lengths in rear.

One form line suggests that Henry De Bromhead’s Special Cadeau might be able to catch Sans Bruit, who was receiving 8lb when five lengths in front of Westport Cove in that championship race at Plumpton.

Special Cadeau was only a length or so off Westport Cove in their one-two at Roscommon in September.

Betdaq Betting Exchange 5.2 Sans Bruit, 7.8 Special Cadeau.

PIC SURE TO GO WELL FRESH

⭕ 2.57 Wetherby (Charlie Hall Chase) Big names beat small fields in this: Cue Card, Bristol De Mai, Bravemansgame and Gentlemansgame.

Then last year The Real Whacker became king of Wetherby but failed to win another race.

Today’s is very much a race of one-hit wonders: Hewick in the 2023 King George; GA Law’s Power Chase in January last year; Djelo in the Denman in February.

I fancy Pic D’Orhy, who has won fresh at Ascot the last two years, has always looked capable of this 3m and the King George is being talked about in the yard. BETDAQ 6.4 offers

BAILEY FOR FIRST-TIME GOLD

⭕ 3.10 Ascot Ooh Betty has not been disgraced in graded races (3rd in the Scottish Champion Hurdle) since scoring first time out last November. Connections will be anxious for the going to remain on top and I took a bit of 13.5, hoping for the best and with a view to playing again later on.

⭕ 3.45 Ascot Third in both the Silver Trophy (Cheltenham) and Summer Plate (Market Rasen), course-winner ‘jumps like a cat’ Bhaloo is stepped up to 3m. BETDAQ 8.9.

Kim Bailey has won this twice in the last six seasons, including with 12st topweight last year.

He saddles Two For Gold, getting on in years, but fourth at 20-1 behind that winning top-weight, after losing a shoe. Betdaq Betting Exchange 44.0 (7.8 three places)

FRANKIE 10-1 DEMANDS A BET

🇺🇸 7.41 Del Mar (Breeders Cup Turf Sprint, 5f) Khaadem, winner of the Jubilee twice at Royal Ascot, returned to form with a final-furlong flourish under Frankie Dettori at Keeneland a month back. Around 10-1 early doors.

Motorious was just run out of it from the one stall last year and has the same lucky-number draw tonight, as he lines up a hat-trick and five out of six.

🇺🇸 9.41 Del Mar (Breeders Cup Turf, 1m 4f) Aidan O’Brien’s Found (2015 at Keeneland), John Gosden’s Enable (2018 at Churchill Downs) and Dermot Weld’s Tarnawa (2020 at Keeneland) were superstar fillies who won this.

And Minnie Hauk, who likes good ground, looks set to join them after a narrow defeat on very soft in the Arc but – after yesterday’s O’Brien family double – you won’t get much better than evens.

Charlie Appleby has landed three of the last four, including two with Rebel’s Romance, in 2022 at Keeneland and 2024 here at Del Mar.

Goliath won last year’s King George on firm, beating subsequent Arc winner, Bluestocking, and you can get around 8-1 with Mickael Barzalona riding in great form.

Silawi showed gear changes from the front when winning at Woodbine. Frankie Dettori’s mount, Wimbledon Hawkeye, has run fourth to Amloc, second to El Cordobes.

LION COULD PULL A FAST ONE

🇺🇸 11.05 Del Mar (Breeders Cup Mile, Turf) Five out of seven have been won by English and Irish raiders, Charlie Appleby landing a hat-trick (2021-23).

Tonight he runs 2,000 Guineas winner Notable Speech, who was third in this last year off a similar low draw, swapping stall 4 for 2.

Sahlan (3) is on the upgrade for Francis-Henri Graffard, trainer of the year in France.

Winner of the Moulin, with Lion In Winter third, but O’Brien fans may recall the Lion’s defeat of Wimbledon Hawkeye on fast ground at York last year.

MURPHY IS ON A MISSION..

🇺🇸 00.25 Del Mar, tomorrow (Breeders Cup Filly And Mare, Turf 1m 3f) Six out of nine have gone to raiders from England and Ireland, including Aidan O’Brien and Charlie Appleby.

I fancy Gezora (Graffard-Barzalona) to return to form. Too soft for her in the Arc but beat Bedtime Story (O’Brien) in the French Oaks.

See The Fire, second in the Opera in the mud, could be a final flourish for Oisin Murphy, riding for Andrew Balding.

It was Murphy’s run on Balantina that cost Balding a £416,000 pay-packet from Pacific Mission, runner-up in that dramatic Fillies’ Juvenile last night.
