NEWBURY FOR RECONSTITUTED HILL! Former champion hurdler Constitution Hill won his second successive AW Flat race last night at Kempton and now steps right up to Group level with the John Porter at Newbury on April 18 as a possible target. The race has recently been farmed by William Haggas: it was one of Al Aasy’s 11 wins for him and one of 14 for Hamish.
MUSH! SKELTON LAST LAP
⭕ 4.30 Warwick Get Up and go! The indefatigable Dan Skelton and his team have continued on the attack in every quarter this last week – winning from Bangor to Kelso – to crush his title opponents.
They all seem seen off by Skelton’s £4m haul for the season but he’s leaving nothing to chance including this £20k prize waiting for him just 16 miles down the A46.
Get Up Mush doesn’t beg to be backed on recent form for this Staying-Chase Series Final. But on his side are:
🔸 Success here at Warwick over a furlong and a half further.
🔸 His chase-form figures on good or good to soft of 11410
🔸 His drop down the handicap of 12lb since Christmas
🔸 His getting weight from all bar one of the opposition.
That one is Fever Dream, who climbed to class 3 here in the late summer of 2024 but has flopped a grade lower three races in a row this year, all at big prices.
The Famous Five was in front of ‘Mush’ at Wincanton recently but Venetia Williams has been placed eight times for only one win since her 66-1 shock at Cheltenham when Martator broke a long losing spell.
There’s no improvement in Pilsdon Pen; he’s had the same rating, give or take a pound or two, win or mostly lose, in 10 outings since January 2024.
Lord Accord has run in strong races, including second in the Berkshire National, but has won only once (first-time blinkers did the trick) since the autumn of 2024.
New Order has kept decent company but hasn’t won a race since novice successes over shorter a year ago.
ON STREAM FOR A STRIKE
⭕ 3.50 Chepstow Stellar Stream could be set for a revival in this handicap chase over the Welsh Grand National course and distance.
Trainer Kayley Woolacott currently has form of 211314, still standing, and Stella Stream is 10lb lower than when scoring over this kind of trip at Bangor.
Sean Bowen rides Esperti, who had Stella Stream less than two lengths back in third at Ffos Las in November, but he was receiving 15lb that day; just 4lb this afternoon.
Stellar Stream was favourite for this Chepstow race a year ago but failed to perform in blinkers. His Bangor win came in cheekpieces and they are on again today for the first time this year.
★ NAP OF THE DAY: Stick To The Board (5.20 Chepstow) was a late challenger when falling at the last in an Irish Point in November from which the first three home have all won NH Flat races from four starts since. Aintree bound after this.
