LAZIO V INTER MILAN

5pm We’re ticking down the season in Europe now with only a few matchdays left, and the focus on Saturday comes from Serie A on Betdaq Betting Exchange. Lazio host Inter Milan at the Stadio Olimpico and this should be an interesting game with everything going on in the background. Inter Milan have already wrapped up their 21st Serie A title, Inter have been the dominant force in Italian football this season and they will be in full party mode. The title was never really in doubt once they hit their stride; they were always clear when you looked at the under-lining numbers despite losing games early in the season. However, while Inter arrive in party mode, the atmosphere at the Stadio Olimpico is set to be anything but celebratory – and not in a good way!

The elephant in the room is the ongoing fan protest against Lazio owner Claudio Lotito, one of the most remarkable situations in European football right now. The Lazio ultras have been staging a boycott of the Stadio Olimpico in protest at the running of the club, with supporters deeply unhappy at the lack of investment and the direction of the club under Lotito’s stewardship. The result? A stadium that will be largely empty, creating one of the most surreal backdrops you will see in European football – some games have almost been like Covid19 times. The images of vast swathes of empty seats in what should be a passionate fortress tell their own story. You would think from an ownership point of view, something would have been done to smooth over the fans, but here we are. The Inter Ultras have given their full support, and announced that they will boycott the game too.

It’s also worth noting that these two sides will meet again in a few days time in the Coppa Italia Final – Lazio Ultras have confirmed that they will attend that game to support their club. The atmosphere here though will be quite bizarre. Inter Milan come into the game as the odds on favourites at 1.84 with Lazio 4.8 and the draw is 3.85 at the time of writing. Obviously you’d have to question the motivation for both sides here given the situation – they both have the Cup Final coming up and also Inter can ease off given they’ve already won the title. Lazio’s home games have obviously been a major talking point this season too.

On the pitch, the underlying numbers paint a very clear picture. Inter’s average xG created of 1.95 is the best attacking figure in Serie A this season, and their average xG conceded of 1.01 is also the best defensive figure in the league. Lazio have been very poor this season; their average xG created of 1.26 is a bang average mid-table figure and their average xG conceded of 1.44 is genuinely concerning from a defensive standpoint; that figure is also mid-table at best. It’s no surprise that they are going to miss out on European football next season. If this fixture was important to Inter, you’d be all over the 1.84 but I would expect plenty of changes here to be honest. I feel given the situation, you’d have to go with low stakes into this game, and Under 2.5 goals looks a nice position at 2.14. The combination of an empty stadium, poor Lazio form, and Inter having the title won – with the added Coppa Italia Final in a few days time could see a reasonably quiet game here.

The Ultra Says:
One point win Under 2.5 goals at 2.14 with BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE.
