DAQMAN’S SUNDAY NAP: Daqman landed his Sunday NAP for a profit on the day after his first selection Botagoz was a late non runner. He narrowed the listed Tapster Stakes down to the two William Haggas runners with his nap Tenability prevailing at 11/10.

LES GIRLS ARC FANTASTIC: Daqman celebrates the fillies and mares who have dominated the Arc and takes from the Epsom Oaks the potential to Enable another filly champion to be Found!

FILLIES ‘ON’ FOR ARC No 9

IF anything comes good after a rain-sodden Epsom Derby meeting, it could be another filly to win the Arc (this side of Christmas Day).

Four Frankel colts ran in the Derby (Ancient Egypt 8th, Item 9th, Benvenuto Cellini 10th, declared a non-runner, and Action 13th of 14).

Though one or other colt (Benvenuto Cellini for me) may redeem himself in the next three months, the chances are – and her Oaks performance suggests – that a Frankel filly, Thundering On, will emerge with the potential to give fillies and mares their ninth success in modern Arc De Triomphe history.

Camelot sired the Derby winner with Christmas Day but I’d still prefer Pierre Bonnard, by the same sire, or Maltese Cross (Camelot his grandsire).

Whatever the colts can do in the Irish Derby to restore their prowess, I see Thundering On able to join this list of Arc fantastics (final rating left, with major victories before the filly’s first Arc on the right).

128 DANEDREAM (Peter Schiergen 2011) Berlin, Baden grand prix
126 TREVE (Christiane Head 2013 and 2014) French Oaks, Vermeille
125 ENABLE (John Gosden 2017 and 2018) English and Irish Oaks
124 FOUND (Aidan O’Brien 2016) Breeders Cup Turf
123 ALPINISTA (Sir Mark Prescott 2022) Five consecutive Group 1
122 BLUESTOCKING (Ralph Beckett 2024) Prix Vermeille
116+ THUNDERING ON (Joseph O’Brien) English Oaks so far.

LADIES FIRST AT LEICESTER

⭕ 3.00 Leicester Just the four runners here but it looks a race full of promise with the exception of Muchacho who faces a tough task on debut.

The starting point has to be Heddon Street who was hugely impressive when winning by four lengths on debut but that was 238 days ago and it’s never easy to give away weight (in this case 5lb) in these contests. He also doesn’t currently hold any big race entries.

I prefer the sole filly Vichenza who I thought ran a cracker on debut at Salisbury finishing third to Golden Brown. She was hampered in her run that day and will surely improve bundles.

Jellystone Park will also have his supporters after being pipped a nose at Doncaster last time out. The winner that day The Untamed let the form down badly when 8th, beaten 9 lengths, at Windsor which just tempers enthusiasm a little.

CYRANO DE BERGERAC TO NOSE IT

⭕ 7.09 Windsor The first of two decent races (class 3 and class 2) by the Thames tonight where the going is good to soft with more showers forecast.

This novice event should go to the Gosdens with their promising three-year-old Cyrano De Bergerac who looked in need of the run on debut when chasing home Knights Charge by a sizeable five lengths on the all-weather. There doesn’t need to be any alarm bells with the form line though as Knights Charge went on to defy his penalty by winning at Nottingham in good style.

Roger Varian, trainer of Knights Charge, puts up Zachary Hickes here who hasn’t been seen for 551 days since shaping with promise on debut when a debut fourth at Kempton. It’s obviously hard to know what to expect after such a break but he won’t be carrying my money here.

A bigger danger may emerge from the Royal filly Avarona who was down the field on debut at Newbury but looks the sort to do better in time and for the two furlong step up in trip tonight.

It’s a big 16 runner field but I agree with Betdaq Betting Exchange market which has the quality runners at the top.

MARCHING ON IN THE RAIN

⭕ 7.39 Windsor A class 2 handicap over the sprint course and it would seem prudent to concentrate on the ground angle given the ground will be chewed up if the likely further rain arrives.

That rules out the promising filly Society Kiss who made a winning debut at Ascot (good to firm) and was far from disgraced in the Queen Mary on her return to Royal Ascot.

Current market leader Trefor has similar question marks. He’s a very impressive 6-19 on the turf but all those wins have come over good or faster ground.

I’ll take a chance on two at bigger odds – both for a WIN 20 return.

Connections of Marching Mac will be doing a rain dance as he is a proven heavy ground performer who has dropped to a very workable level mark in these conditions.

The Italian bred Gaeli gets a 2lb break from the handicapper and has heavy ground form in his native country. He might well improve on his course and distance fifth last time out.
