THE BETDAQ PUNTER returns with his usual mix of looking back on his betting week on BETDAQ and looking forward to this weekend.

He has bets this weekend in the football, cricket and racing.

It was a right old mixed bag last week with some winners some losers – and lots of reading material!

How can he fare this weekend ?

Friday

Once more in to the breach dear friend with my handicap favourites system to small stakes while waiting for an action packed weekend ahead. This time it took me a while to get my profit (and some fancy maths with my stakes to make sure I made something when or if I found a winner), and I don’t mind admitting that losers at BETDAQ odds of 3.65, 3.8, and 2.85 saw the layers smiling and me beginning to fidget in my seat. Until now I had never even heard of a horse called Gizzit, a seven year old gelding who had NEVER won a race in twenty attempts  -hardly the bet of dreams!  For reasons way beyond me, he was sent off the clear 5.2 favourite on BETDAQ (there was some 7.5 around earlier but my system plays race by race) so became my bet – happy days at the need as I cashed my chips and stopped for the day to wait for the French footie in the evening.   Although it is anything but refined I feel the odds seem priced up more accurately in Ligue 1 as mentioned last week and Nice were training at 1.8 on BETAQ for the home win so in I went. Twelve goal attempts to five saw a 2-0 win and a comfortable one at that so my holiday may take place in 2013 after all?

Saturday

I left Everton alone and boy that was the right decision as they let a lead slip yet again and with it any chance of fourth spot. My bets relied on a heavily odds on shot on the horses (Planteur) who won by a neck in course record time though the 1.5 I managed to take on BETDAQ means the early retirement plans are on hold for now. A win is a win though and added to Forgotten Voice (who lost me plenty on the flat) who won again over hurdles at odds of 5.9 (why didn’t I have a bit more on?); it turned in to a profitable afternoon on the horses anyway.  The Rugby was all going swimmingly as well with Wales and England both winning as expected though the least said about the rest of the football the better.

Sunday

A busy day for me with a three hour drive to watch some 9 ball pool in Telford – 8 ball is the one I play along with millions of others but I thought I would watch the American version for a change. Anyone who watches or has watched the Mosconi Cup will have head of Ralph “The Kaiser” Souquet and he was there along with Tony Drago, Chris Melling and so on – suffice to say if you like your pool it was a case of meeting your heroes. Naturally, I took my tablet with me BETDAQ app and all and with a decent signal (free wifi too, makes a change), I managed to get my bet on both team to score for Manchester City v Chelsea though watching it with the sound down rather spoils it and does get you some strange looks. I managed to beat the BETDAQ price I quoted last week nicking some 1.68 but I wish I hadn’t bothered as a 2-0 scoreline sank my bet without a trace.

Monday

One of my other old wives tales/betting theories revolves around ex jockey Gary Moore and his runners at Fontwell or Plumpton – back them all and stop at a winner. As they raced in Sussex this afternoon I rushed to the racecards to see what lay in wait. Asker is a horse I have followed anyway so he was my starting bet in the opener but ran another stinker at odds of 5.2 on BETDAQ and I wonder if I can be brave enough to leave him alone from now on (and watch him win no doubt)? Luckily for BETDAQ layers (not for me) his next and only other runner was Right Stuff who is clearly very poorly named as he only managed a 6th place at BETDAQ odds of 15.0 (way better than Starting Price, by the way). He should be called Wrong Stuff in my eyes and he was enough to make me quit for the day.

Tuesday

A very quiet day spent reading various trainer interviews and putting together an ante-post portfolio, which I will splash out on next week, once all the information is to hand! If anyone else has noticed but the racing press have been off on their jollies around the top yards pre Cheltenham and it makes pretty interesting reading – more next week but I am aiming for a Lucky 31 of each way options so fingers crossed on that one!

Wednesday

It is that time of the year on the horses at least where we are all itching for Cheltenham to off and running. The top class horses have all finished their pre races for the Festivals and are sat comfy in their boxes so we are fed left overs unfortunately – those horses just not quite good enough to turn up in a fortnight or so (with the odd exception).  I waited for the evening (I am becoming so much more patient as I get older lol) and had a lay bet for a change. It seemed obvious even to me that Bradford would be suffering a post match hangover after the weekend but as I know precious little about that division (some will say any division), the laying of the home team at 2.1 on BETDAQ seemed the logical route to take, leaving the draw on my side as well. Fact is they never led the match at any stage and only managed a late equaliser so job done, but it wasn’t much of a stake and I am still saving up for a rainy day.

Thursday

A good day at the office beckoned with my friends involved in Hiddon Coin pretty confident he could overturn the hot favourite in a Southwell claimer. So it proved with a comfortable made all nine length romp and although it wasn’t the best race to win, the odds on BETDAQ of 2.85 bought me and the family a takeaway this evening so that’s a result in itself! Nothing else leapt off the page so I will keep my profits for a change and live to fight another day – tomorrow hopefully with the French football top of my list once again!

Conclusions:

Bet of the week – Planteur – the odds were skinny but my bet certainly wasn’t and he won with any amount in hand – next stop Dubai (apparently)

Disaster of the week
– Scotland –how could they possibly beat Ireland and sink my Rugby Union treble in the process?

Something for the weekend:
After last weeks football I am a little unclear where to start but then that is part of the fun as I was always taught – you can’t win them all (though I can always dream). This weekend sees some tricky contests but it seems I see value differently to most others – and I think Manchester United at BETDAQ odds of 1.4 is an absolute steal at home to Norwich and they will be my main bet of the weekend – like taking candy from a baby (or that’s the plan). For a riskier bet (with a smaller stake) how about Newcastle at 3.0 away to Swansea? Yes I know they won their first silverware last weekend but this is a different kettle of fish and with the Barcodes new French contingent bedding in, the odds look too tempting to resist?

As for the horses, well it’s the turn of Newbury to provide the main action and the Greatwood Chase is the betting race of the day. Garynella was my original choice but 6.0 or so is not quite right in my ignorant opinion, and I want a bigger price for my small each way bet leading me to The Knoxs next – who is the same darned price. Pepite Rose isn’t much better at 9.2 or so but is at least more of an each way option, though to very small stakes as the layers seem to have all angles covered to me?

Lastly (it may be quiet this week but Cheltenham is creeping up fast), how about a little on the home side in the South Africa v Pakistan 20/20 cricket Friday afternoon our time? 1.7 on BETDAQ seems reasonable if not overly generous and although this is the dodgiest of all cricket formats to bet on, as a punter I have run out of options so in I go!

This week’s suggested bets (all prices with BETDAQ and correct at the time of writing):

Weekend Football
3pts Win Manchester United to beat Norwich at odds of 1.4
1pt Win Newcastle to beat Swansea at odds of 3.0

Horse racing
Half point each way Pepite Rose 3.50pm Newbury (9.2 the win 3.05 the place)

Cricket
South Africa to Beat Pakistan Friday 20/20 at odds of 1.7
