Haydock has fared better with 62 but the Lancashire Chase Grade-1 feature has just eight left at this stage. There will be no double-figure fields at Huntingdon.

⭕ 12.20 Ascot The Queen’s four-year-old Kincardine, related to long-distance hurdlers, will relish the trip on this debut over obstacles.
The strapping Pull Again Green has won two bumpers but was disappointing in Irish Points, so a watching brief on his hurdles debut here.
Doctor Ken’s jumping is also suspect but Olly Murphy seems confident he will improve on his first round of hurdles at Aintree.
‘Ken’ brings experience to the winning of a race whereas, for Hidden Heroics and Western Orchard, it’s more about long-term prepping for a career in staying chases.

HENDERSON’S TREBLE BID
⭕ 12.55 Ascot Fairvoir blundered his chance away at Cheltenham, finishing fourth just behind Town And Frayed. Not much between them at the weights, but both are threatened by Cascova, a very easy hurdles winner here in March, who should take to fences well, offered at 4.3 on BETDAQ this morning.
⭕ 1.30 Ascot More novices but a likely odds-on winner in Olly Murphy’s Go Dante, who went clear at Bangor. Like Kincardine earlier on the card, he is the son of stallion for stamina, Kayf Tara.
Nicky Henderson might be trying for a treble after Kincardine and Cascova, with Tweed Skirt seemingly sure to improve on her hurdles debut at Uttoxeter and getting 12lb from Go Dante
VENETIA YARD IN THE PINK
⭕ 2.05 Ascot This 2m 5f handicap chase (hopefully with a ‘straight eight’ for place betting) is not one Nicky Henderson wins and Lust For Glory will need to bounce back to her novice-chase form early in the year.
She refused to race on her recent return at Newbury and a drop of 7lb in the weights and first-time cheekpieces will need to make a lot of difference.
Paul Nicholls has won this with the smart Present Man (2016) but is still tweaking Red Risk’s wind surgery. Though placed at this level, he gives weight all round today.
Guy was second with Red Risk third at similar weights at Market Rasen in October, Red Risk filling the same place as last year but with the yard hopeful he can move on this time.
Smarty Wild, winner of one chase, a grade lower at Kempton, has failed to follow up and the handicapper has allowed him a couple of pounds.
Dropping Pink Legend in the ratings and adding cheekpieces brought the hitherto bridesmaid a victory at Cheltenham in a Listed novice chase for mares in April.
We haven’t seen her since, though she has won first time back in the last two seasons, and Venetia Williams is among the winners again.
Yes Indeed, from the Guillaume Macaire academy, landed the odds at Auteuil in the Spring but on heavy and, as a four-year-old, may struggle to cope with seasoned company at this stage.
Pilbara pulled up either side of his first win over fences at Fontwell and, summing up this trappy little field, I’ll side with Pink Legend, though there may be a Red Risk!

GOOD MORNING, CAPTAIN
⭕ 2.40 Ascot Nicky Henderson has won this three years out of nine with the useful trio Petit Robin, Verdana Blue and last year Buzz, all well backed on the day.
Captain Morgs won here over today’s trip 13 months ago and was a good third at Cheltenham last month when trying half a mile further.
Leoncavallo hasn’t won a hurdle since 2018, when he was also third to Sharjah in the Galway Hurdle, but was second here at Ascot three weeks ago (Highway One O Two fifth) and, claimed off, can get involved.
Four-year-olds have won this race and the Skeltons seem to be able to win anything! Cabot Cliffs is another who returned with promise last month.
Garry Clermont’s stable is in form but he has won his hurdles only on soft ground, so I’ll leave it to Captain Henderson! I suggest a morning Morgs bet before the 3.4 offers get cramped.
ANOTHER OSKAR FOR EVA
⭕ 3.15 Ascot Another form chance for Venetia Williams with Kapga De Lily but, though the mare has won on good ground, she would much prefer some rain.
Jatiluwih, who would also like plenty of cut in the ground, won five hurdles in a row two years ago and has been Pointing with owner David Maxwell, who now tries to pay for the fun with a near-£10,000 reward, claiming off this top weight.
As a hurdler, Eva’s Oskar knocked up three out of four at this time two years ago and, now he’s scored over fences on a sound surface, the grey could hold his form again.
The Shirocco grey was always doing enough to score at Chepstow, turning over the favourite, Getaround, a front-runner who has a 4lb pull and has had summer wind surgery tweaked.
