DAQMAN WITH A GOLD CUP 1-2-3
╠3.30 Cheltenham (Gold Cup) STATS (see separate section of Daqman’s Stats for every race – link above):
179 GALOPIN DES CHAMPS (Willie Mullins) Fits the stats, but with a higher rating than the last 10 winners. Eight wins from 10 chases, still standing, including this race last year and an Irish Gold Cup double.
170 BRAVEMANSGAME (Paul Nicholls) The 2022 King George winner was runner-up to Galopin Des Champs in this Gold Cup last March, then twice more second: to Fastorslow in the Punchestown version and to Gentlemansgame in the Charlie Hall. Courage alone is no longer enough.
170 FASTORSLOW (Martin Brassil) Runner-up to Corach Rambler in the Ultima here a year ago and beat Galopin des Champs in the Punchestown Gold Cup but, though he won the John Durkan in November, he slipped back more than four lengths behind the Galopin odds-on favourite in the Irish Gold Cup at Leopardstown last month. Wind op in February to try to restore his place among the very top chasers.
168 L’HOMME PRESSE (Venetia Williams) The 2022 Brown Advisory may well have been his last Grade-1 success; three lengths down in the King George to Bravemansgame that Christmas when unseating at the last. First try at longer trip today.
167 GERRI COLOMBE (Gordon Elliott) Hard to imagine Gerri making up 23 lengths on Galopin des Champs from their Savills Chase one-two, but at least Gordon Elliott got back into the Cheltenham winner’s enclosure yesterday, after 24 consecutive losers at the festival since Tuesday.
160 GENTLEMANSGAME (Mouse Morris) Winner of the Charlie Hall at Wetherby in November from Bravemansgame, put away for a Spring campaign and 17.0 (to win 160) taken by Daqman on BETDAQ as the potential improver of today’s race.
159 CORACH RAMBLER (Lucinda Russell) Has no more than a handicapper’s mark but won the Ultima here last season from Fastorslow, who is now rated 20lb higher. Rambler followed that up a winning favourite in the Grand National.
164 MONKFISH won the 2021 Brown Advisory
162 THE REAL WHACKER beat Gerri Colombe in the 2023 Brown Advisory
161 NASSALAM 2023 Welsh Grand National winner
152 JUNGLE BOOGIE Grade-3 winner at Tramore

THE STATS SAY IT’S LAYS DAY
LAYS LOGIC: As well as a Golden day, it’s a lays day; nice work if you have a BETDAQ account and some short prices.
Favourites have drawn a blank in the 2.50 (for 10 consecutive years) and the 5.30 (11 years). All three favourites for the new Mares Chase (4.50) have all been beaten.
╠1.30 Cheltenham, Friday March 15 (Triumph Hurdle) Sadly another top chance of Nicky Henderson’s (Sir Gino) had to be withdrawn, leaving only Storm Heart (140) for Willie Mullins with a rating usually acceptable for the winner of this race.
The rest are sub-standard, ratings wise, but the top trial for this, the Spring Juvenile Hurdle at Leopardstown, saw Kargese take advantage of her allowance to beat Storm Heart, with Majborough and Bunting third and fourth.
Kargese and Nurburgring had been the placed horses in a three-way scrap on the same course at Christmas. I’ll follow Paul Townend’s pick, Storm Heart (Betdaq Betting Exchange 5.0).
SUD’S IN THE WASH ON FORM
╠2.10 Cheltenham (County Hurdle) In another ante-post bet, we had Gordon Elliott’s King Of Kingsfield to win 68 points at 7.8.
It looks no easy task, with Dan Skelton (four winners at the festival this week) and Willie Mullins, who has hit a Cheltenham century, sandwiching King Of Kingsfield with L’Eau Du Sud and Absurde; five Willie Mullins raiders altogether.
Ebor winner Absurde was three lengths behind King Of Kingsfield at Leopardstown when they were third and fourth to Ballyburn and Slade Steel at Leopardstown last month. Clearly a race of the highest class.
Skelton has won the County Hurdle four times in eight years, and to say he is in form is an understatement: his win with Protektorat yesterday was truly a masterplan.
His pair here, L’Eau Du Sud (I took 5.8) and Faivoir, were second and fifth in the big Newbury hurdle last month, and Faivoir went down by only a nose, giving 7lb to the winner, in the Imperial Cup but that was just last week; and this could come too soon.
10.0 TEAGUE IS BRED TO STAY
╠2.50 Cheltenham (Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle) LAYS LOGIC: Among the 10-10 losing favourites have been 7-2, 9-4, 11-4, 4-1, 4-1, 7-2, 9-4 and 9-4 in time order.
But you still need courage to lay a four-time Willie Mullins winner, Readin Tommy Wrong, at the front of the market this morning.
At least you know you are opposing him with a five-time Willie Mullins winner, High Class Hero, and a Willie Mullins hat-trick seeker, Dancing City!
Most of them have been winning at 2m 4f, so which among them is the one to step up and take this fast-run 3miler in the mud?
Bred for this are Gidleigh Park (Harry Fry at BETDAQ 6.2), who has won at Cheltenham, and Captain Teague (Paul Nicholls at BETDAQ 10.0) – both of whom have beaten Johnnywho – plus The Jukebox Man (Ben Pauling), value at 31.0 on BETDAQ for winning owner yesterday, Harry Redknapp.
LINE UP TO HUNT THE WINNER
╠4.10 Cheltenham (Challenge Cup hunters’ chase) Its On The Line was only six when he pressured the winner, Premier Magic, all the way to the line in this race last year. Not beaten since and acquired by J P McManus.
Premier Magic, trained Bradley Gibbs, tries to win again, back to back, but he is 12 now, past the winning age for this, and the maturing Its On The Line should close him down now he’s another year older.
DINOBLUE DAQMAN’S FINAL NAP
4.50 Cheltenham (Mares’ Chase) All three favourites in this new race have been beaten (2-1, 6-5 and 13-8), all trained Willie Mullins!
But I shall not shirk his Dinoblue, who is bred for this and more. I have always followed the mare, though knowing she needed further.
I was perhaps foolish to be tempted by 12.0 for the Champion Chase, but her entry showed what regard she was held in.
I wish I could get 12.0 now for this Mares Chase! Instead I’m down for 2-1 but could better it after a gamble on Limerick Lace, the Troytown runner-up.
Gavin Cromwell sent her over to win the Silver Vase at Doncaster but she had only 127 and 125 rated mares to beat, so no surprise she won readily.
The Mullins pair here, Dinoblue and Allegorie De Vassy, who are on 160 and 155, rated miles clear of this feld.
BOURBON TAKES THE BISCUIT
╠5.30 Cheltenham (Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle) They couldn’t create a tougher getting-out stakes for the meeting; 22 conditional jockeys in a cavalry charge.
LAYS LOGIC: The favourites have all been beaten in the last 11 years, with possible lays on losers at 9-4 , 9-2, 7-2, 4-1, 4-1 again; 7-2 and two more that got stuffed at 5–1.
Michael O’Sullivan rode the winner of a decent trial for this, ahead of Waterford Whispers, who had beaten Answer To Kayf at Fairyhouse.
O’Sullivan switches to Quai De Bourbon (BETDAQ 6.6 taken), an unexposed stayer from Closutton, who then beat him in a mudbath at Clonmel, though it was the minimum distance.
