FORTUNE COOKIES PROFIT ON DAY 1: There are just three Fortune Cookies this week; two run today after the first, Nostrum, absolutely ran away with the Henry Cecil Stakes on Day 1 of the July Meeting. It was winner number FIFTEEN for Daqman’s horses-to-follow list this Flat season.
THURSDAY PROFIT on the day 4.25
WON 11-10 NOSTRUM (Fortune Cookie)
* Daqman 36, Pricewise 17
FILLIES FANCIED AT THE DOUBLE: Today’s Fortune Cookies are fillies in the Group races, Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket (5.4 taken on BETDAQ) and Grand Prix de Paris tonight (2.2 favourite).
DON’T KNOCK JOHNSTON OUTSIDER
⭕ 1.50 Newmarket (1m 2f handicap) This used to be regular pocket money (50k to the winner) for Mark Johnston, with six winners – yes, six! – in the decade. All very backable from 13-2 to 25-1 SP.
So we can’t ignore Charlie Johnston’s dual gold-dig with Killybegs Warrior and Knockbrex, who was well fancied for a Royal Ascot handicap; gets 7lb and 11lb from the front-runners in today’s market.
Killybegs Warrior and Bolster were 10th and 11th, taking on Derby sixth, Waipiro, when he romped away with a Group 3 at Royal Ascot, the first two rated 107 and 100.
Today’s favourite, Tagabawa, from last year’s winning stable, was sixth in another Royal Ascot handicap (Burglar 9th), the one-two rated 94 and 92. Stablemate Local Dynasty finished well, third, off 100.
Tagabawa had beaten Maasai Mara four lengths on Kempton AW in April before that one pipped Westerton a neck at Ascot in May. Westerton doesn’t look too well in on that line.
Seendid will need even bigger improvement as a winning novice over today’s CD from the William Haggas stable that won this in 2021.
The runner-up to Seendid on the July Course that day had finished last of 10 to Waipiro in the Spring.
Daqman’s verdict: Eight of the last nine winners of this race were drawn 1 (twice), 2 (twice), 4, 5 and 6 (twice), and yesterday’s winners here at a mile and more were drawn 3, 4, 5, 6.
Six out of nine carried less than 9st and Knockbrex looks good each way, runner-up, giving 6lb to Gregory in April; badly drawn but tried to make all at York (1m 4f), then didn’t give his running when Frankie Dettori’s final ride at Royal Ascot.
Knockbrex, out of the one stall, was 16.5 on BETDAQ this morning; Burglar (gate 4), offered at 10.0, looks dangerous, dropped back in trip.
THE WINNER VIA REMARQUEE..
⭕ 3.35 Newmarket (Falmouth Stakes) FORTUNE COOKIE Remarquee can give the three-year-olds six wins out of eight in this, with every chance she will improve.
She is related down the dam’s side to Oaks winner Look Here, who was also trained by Ralph Beckett, who describes the Guineas as a non-event for Remarquee; she was still so green.
Best of the mares is surely Via Sistina, but she has never won at a mile. She was a 10-furlong handicapper who came good for George Boughey, step by step.
Winner of a Group-3 in France in November, she took the Group-2 Dahlia Stakes on the Rowley Mile course (1m 1f soft) and then the Group-1 Pretty Polly at the Curragh (1m 2f good) on the first of this month.
Betdaq Betting Exchange 5.4 Remarquee
SISTER CAN BEAT DERBY COLTS
⭕ 7.52 Longchamp (Grand Prix de Paris, 1m 4f Group 1) Just as the Saint-Cloud grand prix has been a good guide to the Arc, this one has recently produced winners of the St Leger (Kew Gardens 2018 and Hurricane Lane 2021) and the York International (Japan 2019).
FORTUNE COOKIE Soul Sister has the International on her agenda but is also being quoted for the Nassau Stakes and the Yorkshire Oaks.
The York targets appeal on the strength of her Musidora win there (1m 2.5f) but she then took the Epsom Oaks (1m 4f) rather easily from Ballydoyle’s Cheshire Oaks winner, Savethelastdance.
As a 116 rating after that burst of versatility, the sky’s the limit (the Arc?), and today she should dispose of the Prix du Lys one-two, Rubis Vendome and Silawi.
But England’s darling must take the measure of the Derby colts: for France, Prix du Jockey Club fourth Feed The Flame, who holds First Minister on earlier form; for Ireland, Adelaide River (rated 114) and Peking Opera, second and fourth to Auguste Rodin in the Irish Derby.
The clincher, I hope, is the 3lb Adelaide River must give to Soul Sister, who is ridden in Frankie Dettori’s enforced absence by Kieran Shoemark.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….
Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
