77-1 JACKPOT DOUBLE FOR DAQMAN: Elusive Flame and My Propeller were both ‘big’ at 8.2 and 9.6, respectively, on BETDAQ this morning, says Daqman, and he dares a jackpot double worth more than 77-1.
NAP, LAY AND DAQ MULTIPLES: Daqman has lost none of his derring-do after his nap was out of luck, unable to get a run at Sandown last night. His best bet today is at Pontefract; he has a lay at Newmarket; and he finds four hot horses for Daq Multiples.
2.40 Newmarket Jubilante ran second for Richard Hughes in a big-field sprint on the Rowley Mile course here three weeks ago but was getting 21lb from the winner and ‘beat nothing.’ It was a poor class 2 and Hughsie now jumps ship to ride Exceptionelle.
You could have a pop at one or two here, without too much damage to the bank: I’d try Nardin (19.5 on BETDAQ), by Royal Applause, who improved with age.
I just hope Paul Hanagan has a better ride than he did on my nap, Altharoos, at Sandown last night. Make no mistake that one will be a winner of a decent handicap at a price before long. You read it here first.
I’m laying Jubilante (at the 2.5 maximum). I’m backing Exceptionelle (5.7 this morning). I’m popping at Nardin (19.5), who is an if-not-now-then-next-time horse for me.
3.35 Bath Fair Value, clear on the ratings, was concerned in the blanket finish when Ryan Moore sensationally drove Duke Of Firenze past half a dozen finishers in the ‘Dash’ at Epsom last Saturday.
Jiroft, fifth, a whisker behind Fair Value, runs in the 8.15 Haydock, so you could get a pointer here. Sentimental punters will also have a pound on Barons Spy, after whom this Bath race is named.
3.45 Newmarket It’s guesswork as to how good Top Offer is. Highland Colori is a CD winner but a bit high in the handicap. Elusive Flame and Common Touch have similar profiles.
The difference is that Elusive Flame’s trainer, David Elsworth, is red hot right now with 4-9, and he’s called on rider of the moment Moore to do the business.
Elusive Flame (8.2 as I write) ran with promise at Ascot recently and her July Course success last season was franked when second and third both won next time out.
4.10 Bath One of Elzie’s recent winners was Maid A Million, who is around even money to follow up here. We’ll use her as the saver for Elusive Flame, on the grounds that it’s hard to believe he won’t get one or t’other of them home.
8.05 Pontefract The hardearned was down early doors on Duke Of Perth, from a family of money-spinners for Luca Cumani. Kieren Fallon marked the Duke down as the best of his midweek rides.
8.15 Haydock Ryan Moore goes on from Newmarket to Haydock for eight rides in all today. His mount, My Propeller, is big at 9.6 on BETDAQ this morning.
She wins this on a line through Excelette. But the worry is whether prolific Italian winner on the soft, Jiroft (5.5 as I write), will cope with the firmish ground for ace sprint trainer, Robert Cowell.
I marked this one down for the future, having his first run in England behind Duke Of Firenze last Saturday and his coming out quickly here suggests that a sound surface is not a problem.
However, the other side of the coin is whether Jiroft will ‘bounce’, out again so soon following that first run after a lay-off.
