SUPER-TRAINER AT LEICESTER: Can Mark Johnston become the winning most trainer of all time ?
GOING TO BAT FOR DAQMAN AT YORK
It’s the Daqman X1. This is the final week of summer Fortune Cookies. On which of them runs and how they perform depends whether they power through the 1,000-points profit barrier, having come so close (961) before returns dipped at Goodwood.
After York, Daqman will assess the list and present an autumn final selection, with the British Champions and the Arc meeting in mind.

FEW DANGERS TO FUENTE
2.35 Thirsk Fuente has a penalty to defy but this looks a modest race and he is the standout.
He picks up the penalty for a smooth four and a half length win at Ayr over Axe Axlerod who came out to win next time out at Wolverhampton and the form looks solid.
Up The Millers might be the biggest danger. He was a fair fourth at Newcastle on debut when an unconsidered 33/1 shot in the market and met with trouble in the run too so the form can probably be upgraded.
The Richard Fahey trained Get The Rhythm didn’t show much on debut at Goodwood but interesting that he made his debut at a relatively high level and he is a likely big improver.
3.50 Leicester On a quiet days racing ahead of York, the story of the day could well be made at Leicester where Mark Johnston saddles three runners as he attempts to become the most prolific winning trainer of all time.
He drew level with Richard Hannon (Snr) on Sunday when Dr Richard Kimble won at Ripon and has a fair chance of taking the outright lead with Stellar Comet here. The filly improved significantly for her Goodwood debut when a close up fifth at Chelmsford last time out.
Today’s favourite Over The Guns looks too short under a penalty for a three quarters of a length debut win here over six furlongs.
Silkstone is another that improved plenty for his debut effort but already may need a longer trip.
8.00 Windsor The final race favourite at Windsor on Monday was a ‘system’ for many around 20 years ago and it was surprising how often it copped. It’s rare to see a non handicap conclude the card these days so tonight’s novice stakes will be déjà vu for older racegoers.
It looks a match between Petrastar and Midi – with the recent course and distance form of the former preferred. He only failed by a nose on debut to peg back the 8/11 favourite so really does fall under the ‘winner without a penalty’ category.
The Sir Michael Stoute trained Midi has been off the course for nearly a year since his debut 13th of 16 at Newmarket. His exemplary pedigree (Frankel out of Midday) would suggest he’s much better than that but clearly might need the run.
