DAQ MULTIPLES A WISE MOVE AT BANGOR: Follow the man in form, Nicky Henderson, but get 19.0 Betdaq value in the handicap hurdle against the horse that doesn’t want to win.
Fill your boots at Bangor. A stable which currently can’t lose looks all set to land you some Daq Multiples on a sparce card for runners.
Nicky Henderson’s last nine form figures since the first day of the year are 112112211, despite the absence of Tony McCoy and with Barry Geraghty over here only for New Year’s Day.
Winning Henderson jockeys for 2012 are David Bass 2, Andrew Tinkler 2, Gary Derwin and Geraghty 1 each. Tinkler has the task today on Floreat of trying to stop Donald McCain’s Diocles.
McCain also runs Ten Ace and clearly wants to make this a stamina test for Diocles after his staying-on second on heavy at Haydock over today’s trip.
But Floreat (3.10) will also benefit from a test of stamina, keeping on well in a lesser novice hurdle at Hereford in November.
They are betting 19.5 bar the two on Betdaq as I write, and I shall take 4.4 Floreat, using odds-on Diocles for some leverage in my Multiples
The tricky McCain runner is Absinthe (1.30), with the stable again doubly represented. Absinthe follows Overturn by departing Walter Swinburn with a decent Flat record.
But he faces a formidable opponent in Clowance House, who already has hurdles experience. They were rated 91 and 85 on the Flat and were as tight as that in the early exchanges.
Jockey feasting on festive form is Timmy Murphy, who ended 2011 with form figures of 11122P01. He has one ride today on Bagsy’s Bridge (2.00).
Murphy is hoping to redeem the Boxing Day ride at Wetherby, when he led two but ‘Bagsy’ pulled himself up on the run-in.
Murphy knew all about ‘Bagsy’, beaten favourite under him at both Fontwell and Southwell. He clearly doesn’t want to win; ‘Bagsy’ not Timmy.
In fact, it will be interesting to see if Murphy can poke his head in front on the line today: you could back him at 2.5 or lay him at 2.66.
I fancy a lay in running if I can get on, since he was on the bit, after making smooth headway, when ‘chucking it in’ at Wetherby.
I shall have my pound on Lisdonagh House (19.0), creeping back to the form – in two runs back – that landed him a Newcastle handicap a grade higher under today’s jockey at Newcastle in April.
Going back to the beginning, it seems a Wise Move (2.35) to put another Nicky Henderson in your Multiples, dropped in class and strongly fancied on the Daq.
