6-1 BULL! DAQMAN 54 PRICEWISE 20: Daqman landed the Stewards Cup yesterday with Intrinsic (WON 6-1) to take the profit on his Bull’s-Eye Bets to 211 points and extend his lead over Pricewise of the Racing Post to 54-20 on the Flat.

A BANKER AND A BOLD OUTSIDER: Daqman finds a banker in France and a 12.0 outsider in Ireland on BETDAQ among the pick of the Sunday feature races at Chester, Deauville, Galway and Newbury.

DRYING DEAUVILLE SUITS INTEGRAL

3.05 Chester I was looking forward to the bonus edge that is the draw at Chester. All bar one of the winners of this in the decade came from stalls 1 to 5, with six scoring from gates 4 and 5, precious pozzies just clear of the rails trap.

But, with five non-runners at the time of writing, I narrow the race down to Ertijaal setting the pace and Boomerang Bob trying to catch him.

The Wokingham fifth couldn’t get to the leaders when third at Chester last time, badly drawn and giving weight to the first two. The jockey dropped the rein after a midfield start from stall 11.

But Ballista was behind Bob that day which suggests he would also have accounted for Sir Maximilian on form at the Chester Cup meeting.

There have been two changes in the running of Ertijaal: he’s dropped from Pattern and conditions level to handicaps and he was raced from the front last time at Newmarket (7f).

This tail-flasher is clearly not straightforward but seems sure to go on the attack. In a tactical race, as ever on this course, I took 7.0 on BETDAQ that Boomerang Bob will catch him.

3.10 Deauville (Prix Rothschild) Miss France’s Newmarket 1,000 Guineas form has been overtaken by the Gosden heavy mob, headed by Taghrooda, and Esoterique was lucky to catch a ring-rusty Integral at Newmarket in May.

Since then, Integral has ‘done a Stoute’ – shown massive improvement as a four-year-old – and stepped up from that Group-3 defeat to win a Group 2 at Royal Ascot on firm, then a Group 1 (beating the super-yardstick Rizeena) on the soft at the July Meeting.

L’Amour De Ma Vie was two lengths off Integral at Ascot, giving her 3lb, and could benefit (as she stays further) from a tactical gallop set by one of the two Fabre runners. But Integral has her ground, as the sun beats down on Deauville.

3.40 Chester At the time of writing, we had not lost any of the 14, which will make this mile handicap a typical Chester rough house.

Tom Dascombe’s had the luck of the draw, getting his pair into the low four. Deauville Prince has won only on good to soft, and Chosen Character was back to form at Haydock in June as a front runner, also on soft.

He’ll have tom match strides with Sir Guy Porteous, who was soon run down on the straight course at Ascot on the last day but was headed only in the last strides on the left-hand turning track at Epsom on a sound surface.

He’ll be hard to catch from stall 5, with the stable flying at Goodwood, as ever. But, yet again, day after day since Royal Ascot, I cannot be sure over my cornflakes whether the showers will come to Newbury and Chester, as forecast, or whether the good-to-soft surfaces will be drying out.

3.50 Newbury The honours have been divided equally, 5-5, between horses aged three and four in the decade, with quality winners in the last four seasons off between 94 and 104.

That suggests we have a match, Silk Sari v. Wonderstruck, which is out of balance on form, with Wonderstruck the favourite yet not having been placed outside maiden company. I took 5.0 Silk Sari on BETDAQ.

3.55 Galway Six consecutive winners have come from the foot of the handicap (9st 3lb to 10st 6lb), and Afatcat’s stable has already won twice at the festival this week. Tasty 12.0 on BETDAQ.

ROLL UP, ROLL UP TO THE RED SHED!

Once every four years, the Adidas Games; once every four years, the FIFA Trophy. So long to wait, when we are annually treated to such as Womblesdon and the Epsom Salts River Race (they row mighty fast in that one!)

Yes indeed, so many memories of the quadrennial Olympics and the World Cup, and the annual treats of Wimbledon and the Boat Race, we’d watch them under any name.

No, we wouldn’t! It’s a no-brainer. No PR company worth its own name would change the historical cognomen that will bring gravitas to the product it represents.

We should be asking not only whether they be allowed to rename the Stewards Cup, but what barmpots named the colourless company that is behind the promotion?

I know Her Majesty needs more revenue from Buckingham Palace but I could see them changing its name to a totally tasteless Red Shed.

THE REAL VALUE IS IN THE ORANGE

For once the Press ran out of superlatives this last week. The husbandry of the turf at Goodwood. The celebrity occasion. The sunshine and strawberries in a picturesque setting. The training skills of John Gosden. The riding talents of Jimmy Fortune. The amazing value in the BETDAQ orange on a daily basis.
