GALWAY FESTIVAL: It’s the final day of the Galway Festival on Sunday and the card has been decimated by non runners with 34 non runners at the time of writing.

NAP and LAY both successful on Saturday and the week long Galway Festival draws to an end today – and it’s very much a case of keeping an eye on the non runners.

34 are out at the time of writing.

The Sunday card is the worst of the week – and I just wonder whether organisers might consider saving back one of the better races form earlier in the week to ensure the meeting ends with more of a bang than a whimper ?

It’s been a great week though and hopefully I can finish with a winner or two.

2:15 Martinstown Opportunity Handicap Hurdle (81-116) (4yo+, 2m, 16 runners)

Seven non runners and still it doesn’t look any easier! Lilly The Lioness ran well here earlier in the week in the mares handicap hurdle when third to Cacheofgold and can reward place backers again.

2:45 Vision Express Handicap Hurdle (81-123) (4yo+, 3m, 17 runners)

Again I’m venturing into the BETDAQ place market with a small bet on Dancing Roe who looks likely to relish the step up in trip. He was no match for Orgilgo Bay at Downpatrick but that one looks quite useful and ran well again when second here at Galway.

3:20 At The Races Beginners Chase (4yo+, 2m 1f, 7 runners)

Ted Veale at odds-on? No thank you. He’s a horse I want to be against given he so far at least has yet to show any of his hurdling ability over the larger obstacles. He was tailed off in a better race last time out but I simply cannot entertain him at 1.85 even in this much weaker contest.

3:55 Lord Hemphill Memorial Handicap Chase (4yo+, 2m 1f, 14 runners)

This is a big test for Formidableopponent who was a fortunate winner last time out but the Noel Meade trained runner does look on an attractive mark here.

4:30 Irish Stallion Farms E.B.F. ‘Ahonoora’ Handicap (Premier Handicap) (3yo+, 7f, 10 runners)

I thought the value option here was with Fastidious who looks overpriced and is fresh after a break. This is very much his trip and at odds of 16/4.5 on the BETDAQ WIN/PLACE markets looks a very tempting bet.

5:00 Galway Shopping Centre Handicap (50-75) (3yo+, 7f, 14 runners)

The three reserves all get a run and that could be good news for connections of Beau Satchel who goes after the hat-trick and is improving at a rate of knots.

5:30 Trappers Inn Handicap (50-80) (3yo+, 1m 4f, 10 runners)

Pyromaniac didn’t set the world alight (apologies!) when sixth on hurdles debut at Tipperary last time out but is of interest back on the flat where he still looks well handicapped.

6:00 Fr. Breen Memorial (Pro-Am) Flat Race (4-7yo, 2m, 7 runners)

Looks a head to head between Dermot Weld (Windsor Park) and Willie Mullins (Totally Dominant). Preference is for Windsor Park who won a similar event well at Leopardstown when last seen. And of course it would be another training success for Mr Galway.
