DAQMAN PICKS ONE FOR THE VERY TOP AFTER KINGMAKER DAY: Every season Daqman finds one or two young horses and follows them to stardom from the early days of their careers: Tiger Roll over jumps and Enable on the Flat have recently brought him big-race hits including the Grand National and the Arc. His first – perhaps his only – jumps pick of 2020 is revealed below after the horse’s success in the kingmaker trials at Cheltenham yesterday.
FINGER ON THE PULSE! PIPPED HALF-A-LENGTH AT BETDAQ 16.5: It was a wet and soggy winter Saturday of total drought for Pricewise but Daqman managed to squeeze in one of those super-value morning takes on BETDAQ, win and place: Fingerontheswitch (2ND 10-1), offered at 16.5 in the orange, was beaten only half a length in the Great Yorkshire.

‘Harry’ had just won the Ballymore Novices Hurdle at Cheltenham yesterday, but will now take another step up in trip and be aimed at the Albert Bartlett at the festival in March. He looks like a stayer to me, too. Big time.
Such was the manner of his victory that offers for the Albert Bartlett were quickly gobbled up on the BETDAQ exchange (in to 11.5) last night.
I wouldn’t take anything very much shorter. I’m looking at the long term for this clean-winded intelligent animal, who did his job in a professional manner, and looked the part.
Difficult to know what he beat. Losing favourite, King Roland, who ran second, had had wind surgery and was wearing a hood, yet Timeform described him as a ‘deeply exciting prospect.’
King Roland’s connections were deeply disappointed. He seemed to have the race in the bag but, all of a sudden, Harry Senior got away from him.
Long term? ‘Harry’ is a six-year-old, bred to win a National or a Gold Cup in two or three years’ time, and he showed every sign that he will grow into such a prospect, as this season and the next progress.
First foal of a half-sister to Foxrock and Midnight Oscar, Harry Senior is by Oscar (sire of Gold Cup winner Lord Windermere) out of a mare by Presenting (sire of Gold Cup winners Denham and War Of Attrition, and Grand National winner, Ballabriggs).
And, in the Tizzards, ‘Harry’ is with the right outfit to coach him to glory as a stayer. Joe and Colin handle Gold Cup winner Native River, who is on course for this year’s National.
ANOTHER CAREFULLY SELECTED NAP
1.00 Sedgefield Masters Apprentice looks readily opposable with an anchor of 12 stone 7. He was an easy course and distance winner two starts ago but found life tougher in better company at Leicester last time out.
He might find the concession of a stone to Zamani too much. This one was a winner on the flat when trained in Germany and is entitled to find further improvement over jumps on just his third start.
He certainly improved from his debut effort at Ludlow when winning at Fontwell last time out (on the same soft ground that can be expected today) and whilst this looks tougher he might be up to the challenge as he was still very green in the closing stages at Fontwell.
Cedar Hill can’t be discounted here either. Basically, if you don’t like the favourite you have some very credible alternatives if you are considering a lay.
Cedar Hill is having is first start for Iain Jardine since joining from Ireland but there was plenty to like about his win about at Punchestown last time out.
2.10 Naas I’m sticking with Carefully Selected who gave me a winning nap at Punchestown last time out when he stormed home by 24 lengths. He had the race well in the bag before Speak Easy came down at the last and looks set to bag another Grade 3 prize here.
He does have a 6lb penalty for that win and the presence of Ronald Pump holds the price up nicely for us as he has plenty of good form over both hurdles and fences.
He’s back chasing now after a big run at Leopardstown over Christmas and looks the danger over the Gordon Elliott trained Elwood who has much more on his plate than he did when winning a beginners chase at Thurles.
2.30 Sedgefield A really good class 3 contest by course standards.
Preference is for The King Of May who can hopefully given Brian Ellison a winner after a sequence of placed returns.
The King Of May is back after a break and that could be the key as he won after a lengthy break at Carlisle back in October.
He is preferred to Dame Du Soiree who is making her handicap debut off what looks quite a high mark.
Coole Well has a career form sequence of 235/U1225-222 and looks booked for another second (at best) today.
