GAVIN CROMWELL: BETDAQ Brand Ambassador Gavin Cromwell is hoping to continue his recent good form with his five runners at Gowran on Saturday
We’ve enjoyed another good week with two winners in Bentham and Sarah Jessica, while Ciao ran a nice ran to finished second at Listowel. As I mentioned last week, we’re very lucky to be enjoying such a good spell and with any luck we can keep things going on Saturday.
Gowran Park Saturday
We’ve got a busy day at Gowran Park on Saturday with five runners, starting with Come September in the Group Three Lavarack & Lanwades Fillies Stakes (4.15pm).
She very ran well the last day at Listowel in a Listed race considering it was just the third run of her life and she’s bound to come on from that here. She’s got a bit to find on ratings, but we’re chasing black type and she’s entitled to take her chance in a Group Three. We think she’s got the ability to be competitive at this level, though, and she’ll definitely make up into a nice filly for next season.
Toffee Galore takes her chance in the 1m1f handicap (4.50pm). She was having her first run for the yard at Listowel last time and she ran a really encouraging race. We’re hoping she’ll take a step forward from that here and if she can, we’re hoping she can be competitive. She’s a nice type and would probably be our best chance of a winner on Saturday.
We run Bajan Excell in the same race. We put cheekpieces on him the last day at Listowel and he ran absolutely no race. I’m still scratching my head as to what happened there, but we’re going to give them another go here and hopefully he can put that last run behind him. He’s got ability, he just needs to show it, though after last time, we’re seeing this as more of a fact finding mission more than anything else.
In the following race (5.25pm), we run both Call Me Dolly and Tactical Approach.
Tactical Approach is a nice big horse who is making his debut for us. We wouldn’t want the ground to be too quick as I don’t think we’d see him at his best, but I like him and hopefully he’ll run a nice race. He goes well at home and if he can bring that on to the racecourse, he’ll go well.
Call Me Dolly was second in a maiden on debut, but didn’t quite back it up the last day at Galway. She’s had a little break since that run and while I’m not overly sure she’s up to winning a maiden at this stage in her career, she should go there with an each-way chance.
