JONATHAN HOBBS: It’s the Coral Golden Sprint Final at Romford tonight – the latest Category One event and the perfect way to end Gold Cup day!

The action will be fast and furious over 400m and the main event, worth £10,000 to the winner, looks wide open with any of the six holding a chance. Whoever gets it right on the night prevails, although if you follow the stats trap one runner Goldies Hoddle takes some holding. The last three Golden Sprint winners have worn the red jacket.

We look at the Coral Golden Sprint Final below in more detail, as well as a cracking supporting card with two other finals. The pick of the races are here . . .

Romford

6.27: Right from the first race, the standard is set!  A cracking 400m contest where the break looks crucial on the outside. A smash break from either Savana Jessica or Swift Biscuit could see them away, but the draw swings it the way of Mark Wallis’s Towstar Billy.

Play: Towstar Billy

7.17: Aero Amelia showed good pace on debut last week and will come forward. This raw pup again gets the stripes draw to help matters and could be a winner for Paul Young, although clearing Deanridge Blue is the first port of call. Miss Brentford starts well inside.

Play: Aero Amelia

7.33: Glatton Galileo might be a middle seed but could be well pitched in this puppy race. Richard Devenish’s dog looked unlucky when rushing up to lead last week but being held up. A smoother run could see him get away from King Sam and Savana Towcester.

Play: Glatton Galileo

7.49: Schooldays comes from a good litter – his sister Playbook runs later – and might be another winner for Mark Wallis. He’s only recently back on track after a break and has run in two far tougher events. This strong-running sort takes some holding.

Play: Schooldays

8.06: Roxholme Socks looks one for short-shot backers. Remarkably she’s still a maiden but Hayley Keightley’s bitch has tackled some top sorts here already – and gone mightily close. Take her to assume command quickly here and kick on.

Play: Roxholme Socks

8.21: Playbook could be landing a family double should Schooldays strike earlier – and there’s every chance of that. The Wallis runner is a superb early-paced bitch who wasn’t disgraced in a recent final here and has enjoyed a Henlow trial sharpener since.

Play: Playbook

8.38: The first of the night’s three finals looks a competitive affair – one which Desperado Dan will enjoy. He enjoys a battle and flourishes in such situations – the red-box could see Patrick Janssens’ dog always handy and battling on for the spoils.

Play: Desperado Dan

8.53: A maidens final now and lots of promising sorts. Loggies Arla and Saffrons Express had a good battle in the heats and are respected with likely improvement, although coping with fastest heat winner Queen Lilly is key. The McNair bitch looks a really precocious sort.

Play: Queen Lilly

9.08: The Coral Golden Sprint Final is a cracking affair with chances across the board. The draw inside could see Goldies Hoddle shine, especially with the slow-starting Tiffield Blueboy next door. However Badminton Donal roared back to form in the semis last week and could land Kevin Hutton a second Golden Sprint title in three years after Forest Chunk’s success. Respect is due to Kenton Ten and Swift Sabbath, who are both unbeaten, although can they clear the smash-breaking local bitch Seaglass Shadow?

Play: Badminton Donal

The rest of the card could see Patrick Janssens’ Seaglass Skyla (9.26) build on an eyecatching last-to-first victory last week, while the early pace of Ernie Gaskin’s Newinn Cracker (9.56) might see her get first run on the capable Goldies Symnsy.

Good luck all.
