GLEN JOHNSON: With no Premier League action to preview this weekend due to the cancellations, we asked Brand Ambassador Glen Johnson to reflect on Liverpool’s Champions League exit during the week.

Adrian error

I fancied Liverpool’s chances before the second-leg, plus everyone knows what big nights at Anfield are like and how they can perform on those occasions. Georginio Wijnaldum scored and they got themselves into a fantastic position, but it’s the Champions League at the end of the day so nothing is guaranteed when you come up against big clubs like Atletico.

I don’t like to call out any one player to pinpoint the reason for a team losing but there is no doubt that Adrian’s error effectively cost Liverpool the game and their shot at defending their title. He’s had some blinding performances this season, don’t get me wrong, but you can’t deny that the poor clearance really did undermine them.

Klopp right to do what he’s done

Now that Liverpool are out of the Champions League, some people are saying things like Jurgen Klopp should have fielded stronger teams in the FA Cup but I don’t agree with it at all. Plus, at the time, many understood and agreed with his approach. Also, because they’ve had it wrapped up for so long, it can be easy to forget that they are still going to win the Premier League which is a brilliant achievement in itself.

If you had spoken to Klopp or even Liverpool fans earlier in the season and told them that they were going to win the Premier League and nothing else then I think they would have bitten your hand off for it.
